Decoded Sunday – Terje Saether

Terje Saether is a producer from the dark and cold north, from the land of the polar bear and aquavit, Norway. He was born in the year 1973 and early in the dark 80’s he fell in love with Pet Shop Boys and The Cure. Later he discovered KLF, Leftfield, Coldcut and Underworld, among the grungy sounds of the 90s; Alice in Chains, Faith No More and Nirvana. His love for DJing and music production started with a Commodore 64 and home made turntables and a mixer. Today he continues to explore dark and twisted sounds in his music. The style of his music is deep and atmospheric house with a touch of techno, glazed with techy grooves and spiced with minimal bleeps and creeps. Terje has released tracks and EPs on Nick Warrens Renaissance Masters Series, Night Drive Music, Savoir Records, Frisky Records, Lucidflow, Wasabi Records, UCM, Budenzauber, Dobbelgaenger, Hope Recordings, Crossfade Sounds, Baroque Records and Darkroom Dubs, with remixes from Of Norway, Gregory Thyme, Klartraum, Nadja Lind, Eelke Kleijn, Joff Logartz, Demian, MUUI and Lonya.

“This mix is bit different than the other mixes I usually do,” Terje told me “This time I chose songs that represent several influences in my musical taste and periods in my life.”

// Rigmor – Swollen Game (2014 Rework) – This track is a part of a project I was part of with my friend Arne Sørli, where we produced Rigmor’s debut album ’Triste’. A lot of work went into this and taught me a lot about music production.

// Siri Nilsen – Utenat (Terje Saether Remix) – The is a bootleg remix of a Norwegian singer-songwriter who makes beautiful, melancholic songs.

// Røyksopp – Something In My Heart – A lovely track from Røyksopp’s latest album; the last album they’re gonna release in the traditional album format.

// Falty DL – Ahead The Ship Sleeps – I recently discovered Falty DL, and just love his quirky music.

// Robert Solheim – Regn Regn Regn (Terje Saether Edit) – Robert is a friend of mine, and a really talented Norwegian producer. This track is an exclusive track from his new album, with a Terje twist!

// Falty DL – Straight & Arrow – Twisted Falty DL again.

// Kiasmos – Thrown (faltyDl Remix) – And on remix-duties too!

// Disclosure – F For You (ft. Mary J Blige) – This might be not so exclusive or original, but it’s a really cool track. That’s enough for me.

// Floating Points – Sparkling Controversy – Just cool.

// Afrilounge & Patrick Chardronnet ft. Phetote the Poet – Morning Poem – Dark and groovy on a Sunday.

// Marshall Jefferson Vs Nossa Heads – Mushrooms (Salt City Orchestra Out There Mix) – This is one of the big classics, I have always loved this, and had to dig out the vinyl to get the right version.

// Weisses Licht – Lost (Helmut Ebritsch Distant Remix) – A cool track from a cool label, Lucidflow, some of the nicest label people I know.

// Lil’Wolf – Deliver Me (diskJokke & Vinny Villbass Diskomix). Vegard Lil’Wolf is a very good friend of mine and this is a great remix by one of Norway’s finest.

// Of Norway – Rosemarys Baby Main Title (Cover). Lil’Wolf is also part of ‘Of Norway’ one of my favourite producers.

// Kelayx & Noulan – Rhodes – I have always loved drum’n’bass so I had to add a nice one.

// Terje Saether – The Holy Hour (Cover). This is my cover-version of The Cure’s excellent track. Had to experiment with some orchestral sounds and my guitar.
