New Violence Records have grown from a fresh new label with ambition and passion to a stable, top shelf behemoth in the electronic underworld, gaining heavy support from the world’s elite on a consistent basis, and delivering constant, memorable records. This time around, we have two originals from Horatio & Thule featuring a great remix from Vangelis Kostoxenakis.
The original version of ‘Legalize’ features funk aplenty. The short decay of the kick blends perfectly with the pitch bending since wave sub line. A warm ambiance drifts off a vocal before a classical stab aligns with a blip sound, which is offset to pick up the pace in the mids. There is some intense energy created by the pairing of Horatio & Thule. The combined genius reflects all throughout. This is a team who knows exactly what it takes to provide the underground with exotic and imaginative music.
Vangelis Kostoxenakis’ remix of ‘Legalize’ has a bit more of a tribal feel to it with the congas making up the main body of the groovy percussion. In comes that super cool vocal before take off commences. The driven, punchy groove ticks all the Tech House boxes. This is, without a doubt, a record that will cause some serious damage.
Horatio & Thule’s ‘Liason’ pools together various percussive shots in a fun House rhythm and each pokes through the tweeters with wonderfully solid transients. A gritty, acidic synth makes its way to the forefront and adds a slice of curiosity. The percussion loops over as the low end is slowly filtered back in with a mystical ambient pad adding space in the background. We can certainly see why New Violence have received so much support on an industrial scale. With releases like this one, we look forward to hearing much more from the New Violence crew.
