Ramon Tapia and Rik Watts team up for the first time to lay down the sounds of the ‘Snuss EP’ on Gem Records. Tapia has been part of the Gem Records family since 2010, and this is his fourth appearance on the label. Tapia and Watts met at a gig at Rotterdam´s Factory 010 where they both billed the line-up… the rest, as they say, is history.
The ‘Snuss EP’ is made up of two techno bombs. First up is the title track which is a fierce techno workout that has been getting some serious love from DJs such as John Digweed, Victor Ruiz, Christian Smith, Kaiserdisco, Pig&Dan, Oliver Huntemann, Adam Beyer, Jon Rundell and Enrico Sangiuliano. With a list like that you know it is big!!! The track has a savage low end and a deep dark groove that would easily wake the dead. The cymbal rides fill that track with energy and pace, and the effects are so well placed throughout the track. Some great double claps here and there to keep the groove interesting and the whole piece is just designed to destroy those dark moody dancefloors.
Next up is ‘Clurio’ which begins its journey without as much aggression as the opening track… don’t let that fool you though! When this track gets to work you certainly know about it. As with many great techno tracks, the kick and low end are so important, and the groove is just infectious! Some well placed and meaty sounding metallic sounding samples to keep things industrial, and a great, effected vocal like sample. The breakdown will certainly gauge a reaction from any dancefloor that likes those moody vibes. All in all a very solid techno track but the one here for me is ‘Snuss’.
If you like your deep techno pounding grooves this EP is for you. Go take a listen in the usual places, you will not be disappointed!
