Dance for a Better World
Wednesday 19th October | 17:00 – 18:00
De Brakke Grond (G2 Panel Room) | Nes 45, Amsterdam
Since DJs are a role model to so many, we want to highlight the importance of what they are doing in the realm of social change, innovation and sustainability. Why is it important for a DJ to use his or her position for positive impact? Who do they aim to inspire? And how do you choose a project a partner or organisation, and why? And why should they sometimes say no to a project? What kind of commitment and support does it need? And what can the public do to support them? The panel will start with a talk by Shailendra Singh, who co-founded the World’s Biggest (charity) Guest list, to help educate impoverished kids in India.
20 Years of Global Underground Photography Exhibition
Wednesday 19th October | 09:30 – 07:00 | Free all week | Q-Factory | Atlantisplein 1, Amsterdam
Over the past two decades, as Global Underground has grown to release over 40 genre defining compilations, their additional obsession for capturing the visual vibrancy of the world’s clubbing environments has resulted in a peerless archive of images that catalogue the unique growth of dance music.
With this vault of imagery at their disposal, label owner Andy Horsfield and photographer Dean Belcher have charged themselves with the task of creating a series of pictures that perfectly encapsulates the 20 year history of not only the iconic Global Underground label, but electronic music as a whole. The end result forms a dramatic visual snapshot of evolving youth culture throughout the world. The exhibition comprises the best selection of around 200 photographic images that will be held at London’s prestigious Strand Gallery between November 4th and November 8th, 2016. Amsterdam Dance Event Playground has the honour to preview this amazing imaginary journey in a lively set up at Q-Factory Amsterdam.
The ADE DJ Cook Off
Wednesday 19th October | Invitation Only | Keizer Culinair | Elandsstraat 169, Amsterdam
Last year ADE had its fifth edition of the ADE DJ Cook Off, intended as a small get together event with a tasty twist on ADE’s kick-off day. Because food is for most of us just as important as music, we discovered that quite a lot of DJ’s and artists are just as good in the kitchen as in the booth. “It’s all about the ingredients, timing and presentation.” We found the Keizer Culinair, a cooking school, near the main conference location as a perfect spot for this. Fully equipped counter tops are available for the five cooks and their support, as well as support by Keizer Culinair’s chefs and assistants.
Contestants: Kölsch (DK) (2015 Winner) / DJ Sa (IN) (Cook Off ADE Global Sessions Winner) / Ellen Allien (DE) / Eats Everything (GB) / Lauren Lo Sung (GB)
Jury: Dave Clarke (GB) / Paul Oakenfold (GB) / Seth Troxler (US)

You enter a mysterious corridor that will lead you to the club, here you will find a hidden temple with extreme high walls and a classic look. The venue is located in the middle of Amsterdam. This evening will be provided by sick visuals and an external deep sound system. These factors create the perfect location for a proper techno showcase.

Both unparalleled in their masterly way of bending and crossing genres, the German producer/composer and the MO’s chief director Jules Buckley met up in a Berlin based coffee bar and there decided to melt their geniuses into a one hour lasting symbiosis, between electronic and orchestral music. It is not the first time at all that Schwarz takes up such a challenge, but his expectations are mile-high this time: “Jules has a full understanding of how an orchestra works, but also knows a lot about dance music, and where I come from”.
