A twenty year break away from making music is almost unheard of, especially within electronic music circles, but that is where Antenna Happy finds himself with Pinto. Clocking in at 9 minutes, Pinto draws from psychedelia and techno and weaves an interesting sonic tale and forms the A side for fledgling label Reinhardt Records debut 12 inch release. Imagine Phil Kiernan’s Never Ending Mountain on Steroids.

The B side has an entirely different feel to it in the form of Fallen. Much darker from the outset, this is a growling house workout with arppeggiators delicately mirrored against the acidic, bubbling bass resplendent in reverb. Another track which gets into your head so you’ll be humming it for hours.

Closing the EP is Spark. Conceived within the same stretch as Pinto, however it wasn’t until some months later that Spark took on its full form. Emotive modular synths lay the groundwork, connecting the dots between low-slung techno and house music, culminating in a track that sits in neither genre camp. Spark will appear on the digital release only and is my pick of the three tracks. The EP title track takes its name and inspiration from paintings by Antenna Happy’s three-year-old daughter, whose birth inspired him to return to making music. Close-ups of these paintings can be seen in the artwork for the release. A vinyl pre-order is available on Reinhardt Records Bandcamp page.
