Aphex Twin sells NFT for over $128,000

Aphex Twin has decided to get involved with the NFT action. He sold a 1 of 1 collaborative project with Weirdcore, a visual artist who is a notable Novation user.

The legendary electronic music producer sold the NFT for 72 Ethereum on Sunday 14th March. This is the equivalent of around $128,500.

Aphex Twin announced that he will “spend a portion of the money” from the auction on “planting trees and either donating to permaculture projects or setting them up ourselves, depending on how much we get.”

An NFT (non-fungible token) is a unit of data on a digital ledger (a blockchain) where each unit can represent a unique digital item, and thus the units are not interchangeable. NFTs can represent digital files such as digital art, audio, video, and other forms of digital creative work. While the creative works themselves are infinitely copyable, the NFTs representing them are tracked on their underlying blockchain and provide proof of ownership of the NFTs to the buyers.

NFTs are rapidly becoming a very controversial subject at present. Although artists have been making some eye water sums of money selling their work as NFTs, critics are conscious of the environmental impact the technology may have.
