52. NATURE ONE: GERMANY

Where NATO once launched missiles, NATURE ONE now detonates electronic music bangers. The former rocket base at Raketenbasis Pydna near Koblenz has been recalled into action each August since 1994 as a meeting point for the world’s biggest electronic masterminds. Germany doesn’t do raves in half measures either, as glitter balls, flame-throwers and smoke cannons surround superlative sound systems as lasers dart across a 50,000-strong crowd. Four main arenas reverberate to the rhythm of trance, techno, minimal, house and hard-style, as decorative over-sized flowers meet over-sized grins until the very early hours of the morning. A further 19 club floors give the underground scene space to blossom with cutting-edge labels, club stars and pioneering promoters curating unforgettable parties. The Nature One campsite is also one of the best we’re found on the continent with pop-up parties, daytime DJs and enough BBQs and beer to fill an army, so the good times don’t have to finish when the arena does.
