WooMooN starts a new cycle in Barcelona celebrating June’s New Moon. El Monasterio & Carpa Picninc will held the two main stages with a third one to be announced. On Saturday 16th June, the stunning surroundings of Poble Espanyol and its Monasterio and Carpa Picnic areas (overlooking the entire city with the majestic MNAC at its feet) form the perfect backdrop to the first ever Barcelona edition of WooMooN’s world tour. A city intrinsically linked to WooMooN, Barcelona is not only a hub of artistic ties, but also globally renowned on the electronic dance scene. Experiences will run from 3pm to midnight, intertwined across Poble Espanyol’s various spaces. Live music, DJ sets, theatre, circus, live art and interactive performances scripted and synchronized to perfection with the music.
An electronic opera soundtracked by artists from the WooMooN family as Audiofly, Blond:ish, Damian Lazarus, Jan Blomqvist, Monolink, Rampue (live), Satori (live) and many other artists to be announced. A total of 3 stages, a boulevard with local art market, vegetarian food and cocktails, make- up, hair and costume zones, and a multitude of home-grown performers, mimes, clowns, living statues and artists. A recipe to ensure that WooMooN Barcelona guests not only live and breathe festival vibes, but also experience an unforgettable show, worlds away from the traditional “party”.
Ahead of WooMooN Canadian duo Anstascia and Vivie Ann aka BLOND:ISH talk us through exactly what they like getting up to in their own downtime in Barcelona during Sonar Festival and OFFSónar. Go and check them out too.
Anstascia: My go-to spot whenever I’m in Barcelona is not your typical Catalan dish. I have a serious soup obsession so I usually end up craving the ramen at KOKU kitchen off Calle Ample (or the one downstairs under Koku Kitchen on carrer de commerc) – I usually get the veggie miso spicy ramen with rice noodles and extra nori – cucumber/seaweed salad, spicy kimchi and veggie gyozas all paired with their local vino tinto. You really can’t go wrong especially with an Off Sonar hangover!!
Vivie-Ann: Petit Brot (raw vegan) is my pick. I’ve never seen so much love being put into every aspect from the look and feel of the restaurant down to every ingredient and intention in the food. It’s next level. I live in Barcelona, so after a weekend of lavish restaurants, mescal, wine and touring, this is the perfect balance with their nutrient filled goodness of their fresh ‘made on the spot’ juices. They make me feel whole (and super healthy) again. Their lunches are always raw, yummy, modest and they have the best sauces.
And of course… we’ve gotta balance the healthy stuff out with a good pizza. GO TO OTTANTOTTO FOR A FOODGASM. That’s Pizzeria Bar Ottantotto, on passtge d’utset 08013 barcelona. Second prize for pizza goes to Madre Lievito (on carrer de la Llacun 1 08005).
There’s a couple – Carlos & Matilda is a modest and romantic corner spot lost in Gotico. Also, Paradiso Pastrami Bar — go here for a drink – it’s a surprise location so look around, soak it up and be curious.
Spa Hammam Rituels d’Orient, Carrer de Loreto, 50, 08029 Barcelona. We go here to unwind, and get a feeling of disconnecting and being in another part of the world while we’re being pampered.
Favourite spot to soak up the views / go for a wander:
I like to go to the Parc del Laberint d’Horta. It’s a green shrubbery labyrinth – love to go there to meet a friend to talk deep on life, or just to connect to nature a bit away from the noise of the city.
