Last year has been quite a ride for Blond:ish, with the duo working through an incredibly busy tour schedule which meant that had to put their production skills on the back burner for a little while. To reconnect with their studio flow they both decided to take some time off and headed to Tulum, Mexico where they set up a small studio and went on field recording excursions.
Baring the aforementioned in mind, is it any wonder that this release presents itself as a tremendously atmospheric package with three tracks soaked in intriguing textures and exotic sounds. Fittingly, the title track, Wunderkammer kicks things off with some heavy reverbed guitar strumming, which pretty much picks things up from where the duo left us almost exactly one year ago with their ‘Inward Visions’ EP. As you might expect, the track is filled with lush percussion but still keeps that wonderful dark edge that Blond:ish have mastered so well.
Next up we have the track, ‘Birds Eat Birds’, which picks up the pace a lot from the opening track. This is a full on dancefloor cut that has a great bleeping synth and a really infections groove. One I can see getting a good airing over the remainder of the summer and into those darker nights of the winter.
The final track on the release is ‘Stolen Romance’ and this is very different to the other two tracks. No four to the floor here, just a simply wonderful ambient, yet haunting electronic cut that would grace the warmup or closing of any set. A track that certainly has capsulated their time in Mexico and is probably my favourite on the release. What can I say, I am a sucker for a good ambient track!
If you like Blond:ish you will not be disappointed here at all. There is a vibe here for everyone and one I recommend you all check out.
