Applications are now open for the biggest global DJ competition – BURN Residency 2017. The competition is ready to welcome aspiring DJs from all over the world and unite fans of electronic music to unearth fresh talent.
BURN Residency offers undiscovered DJ talent the opportunity of a lifetime, a career jump-start that sees them on stage in a European city, as well as a five-week Residency in electronic music mecca, Ibiza. The crowned winner will receive a €100,000 EUR contract – a direct investment into their new career as an emerging signed DJ.
Welcomed into the BURN Residency family by world-renowned movers and shakers of the industry, this competition will change the lives of entrants as they follow in the footsteps of previous winners. 2016 BURN Residency winner, Lollino, has signed to Ask My Management and has gone on to release a mix via Bedrock – John Digweed’s label.
Each stage of the competition will be judged by a panel of industry experts and international DJs. BURN Residency has seen guest mentors and judges such as Carl Cox, Pete Tong, John Digweed, Maceo Plex, Steve Lawler, Fatboy Slim, Luciano and Jamie Jones invest their time into the competition and offer candidates tips and tricks on how to build a DJ career.
This year, entry into BURN Residency 2017 will be made through official partner Mixcloud where aspiring DJs can upload their own original mixes for consideration. Registered Mixcloud users can then listen to and choose their favourite mix. It is then up to the entrant to promote their mix far and wide to garner as many listens and favourites as possible, to be shortlisted to the first round of judging.
The selected candidates will then enter the mix-off stage of the competition, where they’ll compete against entrants from their own country. The contenders will be narrowed down to a short-listed 26 exceptional candidates – 1 mix-off winner from each country. They’ll then participate in the first stage of bootcamp – a 4 day test where only 16 will continue on to the next phase.
The lucky 16 will then get to perform at a BURN supported event in a European city. BE-AT.tv will live stream each event allowing contestants sets to be watched by people from all around the globe. Next, they’re flown to Ibiza to spend up to 7 days at the second stage of BURN Residency bootcamp in the world’s dance music capital, Ibiza. During this time, the competitors will attend lectures, mix-enhancing workshops, DJ master classes and will undertake numerous production and performance challenges.
The final 16 will be narrowed down to just 3 standout DJs who will go on to assume their own residencies on the island during the last 5 weeks of the season. Never out of the spotlight, their talent will be tested to the limit before the mentors crown the ultimate winner ahead of Ibiza’s closing parties.
