David Glass is a name that has quickly become synonymous with huge, grooving percussion and thick, pumping basslines which is exactly what Calzature delivers! Add in a couple of top notch remixes from the legendary Yousef and rising star Vicenzo D’Amico, you will find that you have an EP capable of getting the least hip of individuals to shuffle the rubber off their shoes.
As we get started on the original mix the intro taunts us with what is about to come, we know it is going to be special! That signature, grooving percussion backed by a thumping 909 and surrounded with a sea of high hats, filling the spectrum and setting the pulse racing. The bassline comes in, and the journey begins. The rumble of the low end is a joy to behold, it fills the air with movement. The atmosphere builds, and in filters an infectious synth line, a melodic piece to this ever evolving gem.
The elements start to strip away and we are left with that hypnotic synth, snappy percussive shots and reminders of what we have just experienced, what is still to come. A swinging, warm snare roll teases, an array of effects, delays rattling the sides of the stereo field. The drop comes back, the earth shakes. I am left with one conclusion in mind, this is an absolute weapon of a track to be used with caution, assured, dancefloors will be at risk of complete destruction!
The first remix on the pack comes from the mighty Yousef, a man who needs little introduction! Immediately we hear the recognisable, expertly crafted sound that has been the identity of the Circus Recordings founder for many years now. The cool, mechanical intro sets the scene for the neat flow of ingredients that is to follow.
Some seriously huge, retro effects glue together a thumping low end capable of tearing down walls! The drop conjures images of a seamless engine, working none stop to promote the release of endorphins to the relentless crowd of avid, Tech House enthusiasts. This track is 7 minutes of absolute bliss and is well set to light up crowds all summer long.
We finish on Vicenzo D’Amico’s take on this fine example of a true Tech House anthem. It is easy to see why Vicenzo has been supported by and played alongside some of the most recognizable names in the industry. He takes on a funkier approach, a bassline James Brown would be proud of! He has done a great job with this remix, the waves of fresh synthesized sounds has us hooked from the start.
A fantastic array of detail has been achieved. One particular part really caught my attention, an FM synth shot, awesome sound! This remix is so unique and fresh and will be a valuable addition to any DJ’s arsenal or listeners playlist, it is a dead cert to get those hips rocking and shoulders swaying.
There you have it, three tremendous Tech House tracks of Titanic proportion, and a tongue twister too. Calzature is going to be making waves all summer long, it’s an experience you do not want to miss!
