Artist: Charlotte de Witte
Title: Trip EP
Label: OFF Recordings
Release: Out Now!
Genre: Techno
Charlotte de Witte joins the ranks of Berlin-based OFF Recordings with her Trip EP. Charlotte is certainly a name that we keep hearing and this release is helping to put foundations under another solid Belgian electronic music export.
Opening things up, Charlotte has laid down a moody groove to carry her distinctive vocal on the title track, ‘Trip’. As the drums draw you in, her vocal intertwines itself with some great synths that seem to add an almost creepy, ominous tone to everything. Some selective use of processing on the vocal combined with the other elements gives us a track that will grab you and not let go.
We look north and to Sweden for the talents of Cari Lekebusch to provide his skills on remix duty for ‘Trip’. He’s taken that vibe from the original, where it is the drums that have the groove and made it his own. As things progress, you can hear a heavily worked-over vocal that provides a darker, more tense element to the track. This is a very well executed remix.
TWR72 join things with their remix of ‘Trip’. Instantly, there is a very different energy generated here. This one will be a great tool to kick a dancefloor into life. Some great work on the hats throughout gives us a track that really makes its mark. We are looking forward to hearing this one on a big sound system.
To close things out, things go back to Charlotte with the track, ‘Repeat’. Tracky drums with a vocal that does exactly what says on the tin, repeats. Proper DJ tool right here! It’s one of those tracks that everyone should have in their bag. For what it is and does, it’s pretty much perfect. You’ll be asking your friends about this one on a full couch after you get home.
