Title: Yousef Presents Circus 15
Label: Circus Recordings
Release: 29th September
Genre: Tech House

What started out as a night born from passion and a determination to bring something different to the table has now become one of the leading brands in not just the underground, but the entire musical spectrum. Every single soul that Circus has touched over the past 15 years has been enlightened in ways only a truly special movement can achieve. Yousef’s fervent aura spills through every layer of Circus and it is truly remarkable what the Scouse legend has accomplished over the past decade and a half. To celebrate, Circus has released something truly special in the form of ‘Yousef Presents Circus 15 – The Album’. An album which features 15 of the highest grossing Circus artists in their history.

The mix gets underway with Jamie Jones’ ‘Melodic Phase’. The grooving bassline is layered beneath a nice saw wave which breaks into a mysterious chord progression in tremendous style before getting us back into the swinging vibe. Sasha’s ‘Do The Maff’ drops in next and fills the air with an adventurous array of unique sounds. Steve Lawler’s ‘Classifried’ is a spectacular display of sound design. The trippy atmosphere gives the track a dark mystique whilst the bassline is saturated in lovely Ibiza vibes.

The legendary Kerri Chandler makes an appearance with his scintillating track ‘The Intro’. Old school sounds fill the void the give us a massive dose of nostalgia. The strings give a stunning sparkle whilst the funky percussion allows us to shuffle along nicely. Paco Osuna’s ‘Slow To Funk’ demonstrates the stunning attention to detail that goes into Paco’s productions. Slight changes throughout the track make for a super exciting flow that keeps us intensely involved.

Techno wizard Alan Fitzpatrick delivers a slice of pure energy with his track ‘Bhuna’. Alan’s ability is second to none when it comes to creating a piece of music that obliterates the rules. Things are toned down a notch through the introduction of Darius Syrossian’s ‘What Is Life’, at least until an explosion of rapid synthesized sound encourages the production of endorphins throughout the body. Patrick Topping’s ‘Dreams’ certainly got our minds wandering. The pacey production is filled with strange elements that work in tandem to create an incredibly thought-provocative record.

When you see the name Andrea Olivia, you instantly know what to expect. A fantastically arranged combination of acidic based Tech. That is exactly what we have here. A fun track indeed that would make easy work of setting a club alight. Bontan’s ‘You Don’t Know’ is soaked in modular madness. The main arpeggio goes through some seriously tight alterations which keep the track fascinating. The Liverpool native just keeps on doing his city proud!

Catz ‘N Dogz bring a slice of industrial movement with their track ‘Addiction’. The duo who can make a magical track with ease once again show us why they are one of the leaders in the musical underground. A top-notch dose of Tech House. The man that needs no introduction Carl Cox slams in with his track ‘Dark Alleys’ and we can certainly hear where the title comes from. A trippy darkness allows us to engross ourselves in the elements.

Joris Voorn takes us back down to Earth slightly with his track ‘DM12’. This is one of those tracks you hear and it just puts you into a tranquil sway. We finish up with Yousef’s melodic beauty ‘How Did I Get Here’. This is a question I think is easy to answer. Yousef got to where he is with sheer passion for what he does and a pure underlying talent. Yousef took something small and made it into one of the most special things to have touched the underground. Today we celebrate 15 years of Circus and we look forward to seeing what the next 15 have in store.
