Competition: Marshall Jefferson teams up with Roland, Label Worx, Amsterdam Dance Event and Prime for a mammoth competition to mark the first vinyl release on his label, Freakin 909

Coinciding with the 30th anniversary of the iconic sound of Roland’s TR-909 drum machine, the Godfather of house himself, Marshall Jefferson, has teamed up with Roland, Label Worx, Amsterdam Dance Event and Prime for a mammoth competition to mark the first vinyl release on his label, Freakin 909.

When it comes to dance music, there is no other instrument which has had such an important and decisive impact on the entire industry as Roland’s TR-909 drum machine. Looking back on a vast catalogue of pioneering sounds and records which shaped dancefloors, careers and lives, the 909 even inspired the name of Marshall’s own label. Freakin 909 have already released a string of successful underground dance weapons, and have pulled out all the stops to ensure their first vinyl release hits the same high standards.

Comprised of four tracks, the release brings together the sounds of Marshall Jefferson, Rhythm Masters, Full Intention, Sante, House of Virus, Jimi Polo, Doorly, DJ Ides and DJ Sneak for a huge celebration of house music, all packed onto one record.

Marking the occasion, Marshall and Freakin 909 have brought together key figures from across the dance music industry including Roland themselves, the UK’s biggest specialist dance distributor Label Worx, the team behind Amsterdam’s ADE and vinyl distributor Prime, to give one lucky winner the opportunity to win the following:

– 2 x limited edition Roland 909 decks
– 1 x limited edition Roland 909 mixer
– Two ADE Passes (5 Day + Night) for the 2017 edition
– Signed copy of Marshall Jefferson’s first vinyl release on Freakin 909
– Marshall Jefferson – Lock The Doors (Rhythm Masters Remix)
– Full Intention & Marshall Jefferson Feat Sleezy D – I Believe (Sante Remix)
– House Of Virus & Jimi Polo – Better Days (Doorly Remix)
– DJ Ides – Shake That Ass (DJ Sneak Remix)
– Freakin 909 merchandise including jacket, T-shirt and all future label promos
– Label Worx merchandise including T-shirt, stickers, ear plugs and more
– Vinyl goodie pack from Prime

Speaking about the 909, Marshall Jefferson said:

“It’s great to come together with Roland, Label Worx and my own label Freakin 909 to celebrate our first vinyl release, 30 years of the 909 and 10 years of Label Worx. There are hundreds of drum machines out there, but for one to still be industry standard after over thirty years, let alone be instantly recognizable out of that entire crowd, is no small achievement. The 909 kick drum has been a signature kick for me personally for decades.”

Freakin 909 discuss the idea behind the competition:

“It’s amazing to be celebrating our first vinyl release and 30 years of the 909 with Roland. After all, this drum machine inspired our label name on top of the thousands of dance music tracks and artists. Label Worx, being our distributor who support us every step of the way, were the obvious choice to celebrate with and we look forward to turning our label into a legacy working with these guys. Roland are providing a huge package of prizes that every producer would love to get their hands on, along with Label Worx and Freakin 909 goodies, and tickets for ADE 2017! This is one hell of a prize.”

Label Worx add:

“We’re currently celebrating 10 years of Label Worx powering dance music labels, so it’s a pleasure to be working alongside Roland and Freakin 909 to celebrate their own milestones with this incredible competition! As a platform for releasing music, vinyl has always been synonymous with the world of dance music, so we’re always excited to be involved with a special release like this that makes full use of the format. This is a serious treasure trove of prizes for anyone who loves house music!”

Opportunities like this don’t come around very often – once every 30 years or so. Launching on the most appropriate date possible, 9/09 – this is a prize like no other. Good luck!
