Artist : Various
Title : Space Ibiza 2015
Label : Cr2
Release : 31st July
Genre : House / Tech / Progressive

Space Ibiza has been responsible for legendary opening and closing parties on the White Isle since 1989. Anyone travelling to Ibiza, and indeed for those who have never been, Space Ibiza is an iconic name and one to be revered.

With the venue in its 26th year, and having played host to many of the world’s finest DJs, it is the pinnacle of everything that is good about the club scene and Ibiza in general. It is with great honour that Cr2 Records is compiling this year’s compilation album once more.

The 2015 edition of the greatest selling club branded compilation on the planet is nothing short of a smorgasbord of fine talent, from up and comers Eli & Fur to stalwarts of the scene Pleasurekraft and Technasia, and Cr2 owner, Mark Brown. The compilation aims to really take in the whole depth of the electronic scene from House to Tech House and Techno, with a fine array of musicality across the board. Every effort has been taken to ensure only the finest music is delivered in the mix, featuring tracks from Dusky, Martin Lacroix, Holden & Thompson, Jonas Rathsman, Mr Gonzo, The Golden Boy, Max Chapman, KANT and many more.

I got to listen to disc one in its entirety this week, and it blew my bloomin’ socks off! From the opening vinyl scratches on the intro, I felt very sure I was going to be in for treat. Pleasurekraft are one of those acts you see on flyers and don’t really pay much attention to. Then you see them live, and its like a light goes off in your head “This is EXACTLY what I needed to hear tonight.” They’ve taken all that experience and musical knowledge and put together a really quite remarkable collection of tracks. Not for the faint of heart, this one grabs you by the testicles and never lets go!

Tribal tech and driving house are very much on the menu here, and Pleasurekraft are your personal gourmet chefs! The energy is high and the guys do a masterful job of keeping it going through out. Sian’s first contribution ‘Medicine Man’ proving to be a highlight for me early on. And after a brief dip with UK techno hero Dubspeeka proving a needed breathing space, Tiger Stripes up the ante again with a moody Detroit inspired piece of space disco. This is the perfect soundtrack for a club that made its name from that massive dark main room housing one of the most brutal sound systems I’ve ever witnessed.

The inclusion of random vocal shots regarding music and spirituality that Pleasurekraft have found and incorporated into their tracks, really hammers home why I fell in love with dance music in the first place; the perfect marriage of beats and emotion, their own track All Bite/No Bark is a brilliant example of a production duo in complete control of their sound and mastery of their art. Tracks 9 and 10 take things up several notches. Tough drums and hypnotic rhythms urge you to the floor, their relentless energy and promise of sun, fun and frolics a perfect antithesis to the rainy dull day outside my window.

Rave Saver takes us off in a completely different direction. The rolling saw toothed bass line instantly reminding me of a far trancier mid 90s sound than it maybe intends to. In any case, its a brilliant segue from the bass heaviness of before, and acts like a palette refresher for more mayhem. So imagine my surprise at hearing Holden and Thompson’s Nothing creep into the mix toward the end. Bliss! Closing track, Andera Oliva’s Seven Billon Butterflies heads back in to familiar tech house waters and is a fittingly upbeat, but not crazy end track.

A satisfying and musical sonic journey, and one I can’t wait to go on all summer long!
