Daskal releases his debut full-length LP, OD, out now on DJ Tennis’s Life and Death label. The record marks a significant step for the producer and composer, whose work spans contemporary dance, film and electronic music, and represents a return to the intersection of compositional craft and dancefloor-focused production.
Co-produced by Dori Sadovnik of Red Axes, OD brings together club rhythms and synth-driven ambient textures, drawing on Daskal’s Transylvanian and Ukrainian musical roots. The ten-track album is shaped as much by physical movement and spatial awareness as by club tradition, sitting comfortably between concert halls, black-box theatres and late-night dancefloors.
Lead single “Changes” is accompanied by a video directed by filmmaker Tamir Faingold, featuring dancers from the Batsheva Dance Company. The piece uses contemporary dance rather than conventional music video language, channelling the energy of nightlife into movement. Elsewhere, “1992” pairs arpeggiated piano with heavy basslines and techno-influenced drums, while the title track sets orchestrated strings against syncopated percussion and plucky synth hits. These contrasts run throughout the album, with club culture and the traditions of contemporary dance and composition pulling in equal measure.
Recorded and mixed using a combination of vintage hardware, including a rare 1980s German mixer tracked in a Tel Aviv studio, and modern software, OD reflects a deliberate move towards rhythm, repetition and physicality, without abandoning the restraint and precision of Daskal’s compositional background.
