Days Like This Festival returns for its second year at an amazing new location. The boutique one day festival will showcase a carefully curated selection of the world’s best in house, techno and electronica at the picturesque setting of Victoria Park. Situated in the heart of Sydney’s cultural hub of the Inner West, Victoria Park conveys the perfect summer festival vibe with large, open, grassy dance floors, flanked by luscious tree lines, a plethora of shade and boasting a city skyline view. Days Like This will feature a lineup of twenty international acts across three main stages, delivering an event precinct with a diverse range of bars, premium food options and an array of market stalls all combining to create a unique festival experience.
The lineup is an absolute treat for any discerning electronic music lover, and includes massive names like Resident Advisor Top 5 act Maceo Plex; Cocoon boss and techno legend Sven Vath; live electronic duo Booka Shade; Mixmag’s number one DJ for 2016, The Black Madonna; Berghain resident Marcel Dettmann; German House pioneer Motor City Drum Ensemble; electronic jazz auteur Floating Points; renowned Irish producer Mano Le Tough; Jackathon’s main lady Heidi; Hessle Audio boss Ben UFO; Swisse techno don Sonja Moonear, plus many more!
Maceo Plex (USA)
When you talk about the most popular, yet credible, DJs in the world, Maceo Plex will feature in that conversation every time. After all, he came in hot at #4 on Resident Advisor’s 2016 Top 100 DJ poll, and his Berlin Boiler Room set is in the top 5 most watched Boiler Rooms sets ever. His productions feature a thick techno aesthetic which is accessible yet challenging at the same time, but when he is not slamming dancefloors, he can also show a more euphoric side with tracks that has climbed up the DJ charts. Indeed, the American has been responsible for some of the globe biggest dancefloor bombs. Once he arrives it would have been 5 long years since Maceo last touched foot in Australia.
Sven Väth (GER)
Sven Väth is quite simply unique. A legend in his own lifetime with a commitment and passion that has influenced the advance and evolution of electronic music: Clubs, record labels and careers have been launched by the hand of Väth. He is a risk-taking visionary, an instigator, an innovator and very possibly invincible. He is still highly active in 2017 which means an astonishing 35 years as a Dj – and an equally astonishing 17th season for his Cocoon-branded event in Ibiza. It’s been 3 years since the techno don performed in Australia: Utterly professional, and utterly unpredictable, there is no one else like him. Not even close
Booka Shade (GER)(Live)
Booka Shade’s music absorbs influences from all genres: classical, rock, jazz, film score, which has arguably contributed to their wide appeal. Their impressive contribution to electronic music across so many genres since 2004’s ‘Memento’ has seen them become dance music pioneers. 20 years, dozens of EPs and 6 albums later, Booka Shade have become more than a household name, synonymous with the spirit which drives electronic music and setting a precedent to which electronic music is still judged by today. They continue to pioneer and redefine the boundaries of music in their Berlin studio whilst touring their live production internationally
The Black Madonna (USA)
In December of 2012, North America’s oldest independent venue, Smart Bar announced the The Black Madonna as their resident, along with Derrick Carter and Frankie Knuckles. Within a year, she became the club’s first ever Creative Director in its three decade history, bringing a decidedly anti-establishment philosophy to her curatorial style. Her retooled residency program reflects a distinct set of values, adding Honey Soundsystem, DVS1, Regis, Honey Dijon and transgressive events such as Men’s Room to an already diverse offering.
It’s easy to see why the American was selected as Mixmag’s 2016 DJ of the Year: She is a sublime technician behind the decks, and her fluent and dynamic vinyl sets can span from disco to techno. And then of course, there’s her inimitable and infectious ability to connect with any dance floor, which along with her technical skills, has cemented her as a beloved regular and crowd favourite across the globe.
Marcel Dettmann (GER)
DJ and producer Marcel Dettmann is recognised as one of the most influential proponents of contemporary techno. Widely associated with iconic trademarks including Berlin, Berghain and Hard Wax, Dettmann stays true to his roots by consistently innovating his interpretation of electronic music, integrating art with the scene. As a passionate DJ and one of the faces of Berghain, Dettmann seeks to inspire his listeners with sounds both reduced and rough, balanced by emotional and surprising moments throughout his sets. Between pure techno, banging Chicago, tracks old and new of the past twenty-five years, Marcel Dettmann communicates his message with an apparent effortlessness.
Touring the world over; curating and selling out a long list of Feel My Bicep parties (including Manchester’s Warehouse Project and a 12 week residency at London’s XOYO); a #8 ranking in Resident Advisor’s “Top 100 DJs” 2016 poll: Bicep is easily one of the scene’s biggest acts, their popularity accentuated by a steady stream of high quality productions which includes ‘Just’, and their 2016 remix of Isaac Tichauer’s ‘Higher Level’. In 2016 they launched and tested a roof raising live show they built themselves, a highly acclaimed visual extravaganza which they have rolled out at festivals like Coachella, Glastonbury, Primavera Sound, Melt, Dekmantel, Lovebox and Parklife. Now Days Like This is next in line – expect Bicep to be one of the highlights of the day
Motor City Drum Ensemble (GER)
Simultaneously retro and futuristic, German House pioneer Danilo Plessow, ‘MCDE’, is a reference to his home-town as to his first love in music, the soul, jazz and techno sounds of Detroit. As Danilo stays true to his underground roots with a variety of projects, he has managed to be published on no less than 25 labels. Today MCDE is renowned for his eclectic taste in music and his technical wizardry in producing, both of which have made him a globally profiled DJ and producer, who has been re-defining house music over the last years.
Groovy rolling basslines, deep melodic techno, minimal, and 90’s house can all be heard in Cassette’s sets and productions. Not one to be pigeon holed, or limited by others perceptions, Cassette draws influences from many different genres. Internationally, her mixes have been featured on radio stations, websites and blogs around the world resulting in club and festival gigs in Europe, USA, Africa, Mexico, Dubai and Asia. She is now also a firm favourite of Division Agency and Paul Strange, resulting in a residency at underground hotspot Goodbar where she regularly rinses the state of the art Void Accoustics sound system and continues to build her local following.
Mano Le Tough (IRE)
Mano Le Tough is a globally renowned electronic music producer and DJ. A native Irishman, former resident of Berlin and currently living in Zürich, the international in spirit Mano has become a unique and important voice in today’s vibrant electronic music landscape. He runs the record label Maeve alongside The Drifter and Baikal which was set up in 2012 and has quickly gathered a loyal fan base. Mano strongly believes in DJing as an art form. His eclecticism, versatility and commitment to challenging himself as a selector have seen him become a regular at clubs like Berghain / Panorama Bar, Trouw (r.i.p.), Robert Johnson, Warung and Output Brooklyn
Seth Troxler (USA)
Seth Troxler is an event. His lust for life shines through in every set he plays, always giving 200% wherever he performs. The Detroit-native has done it all, from being Resident Advisor’s number one polling DJ to co-founding a highly successful label (Visionquest Records). His personality is as colourful off the stage as it is on the stage, and he truly is one of a handful of working DJs who can claim the title of ‘Rockstar’. His set at Days Like This can definitely be put in the ‘Unmissable’ category.
Floating Points (Live)(ENG)
Dance music trailblazer Sam Shepherd – otherwise known as Floating Points – is renowned for his ambitious, forward-thinking DJ sets around the world. For the past ten years, all roads have slowly been leading to his debut album Elaenia: with influences deep in his formative years, the album draws upon classical, jazz, electronic music, soul and even Brazilian popular music. At times delicate and intense, with moments of utter stillness, it provides the bridge between his rapturous dance music and his classical roots. Performing solo, don’t miss what promises to be a remarkable live performance from one of electronic music’s most perceptive artists
Heidi has worked hard over the past decade to make her mark on the new house and techno music generation. You only have to visit her worldwide brand of Jackathon parties or listen to her BBC Radio 1 show to experience her passion for music and fiery nature. Heidi lives and breathes the touring lifestyle, whether it’s 25,000 person crowds in Latin-America or festivals such as Exit, Global Gathering or Movement she keeps her finger well and truly on the pulse.
Ben UFO (ENG)
Over the past five years, Ben UFO along with his label Hessle Audio has acquired a deserved reputation as one of contemporary dance music’s most daring and wide-ranging selectors, with his keen ear and razor-sharp technical abilities enabling him to cut between eras, lineages and mixing styles with dazzling ease and fluidity. Having cut his teeth in early dubstep and drum ’n’ bass, his roots lie in UK rave culture – yet his selections cast the net wider, drawing new mutations of this culture into the orbit of house, techno and other global dancefloor sounds. A regular to the annual Resident Advisor Top 100 DJ poll, Ben is considered the DJ’s DJ
Sonja Moonear (SUI)
This artist from Geneva evades easy categorisation however: her sets reflect an enormous wealth of ideas and creativity and lead her to perpetually redefine her style. Her musical background, eclectic tastes and enviable record collection have made Miss Moonear a much sought-after DJ. In the last couple of years she’s been releasing her own tracks and remixes on renowned international labels such as Karat and Perlon. She runs the label Ruta5 and organises various events in Switzerland as well as the ever growing Kiss Me festival. On top of that, she is a sound designer for the Swiss-French TV. Sonja Moonear is easily one of the most in-demand acts currently on the techno scene
Len Faki (GER)
Berlin-based DJ, producer and label owner Len Faki is one of the most outstanding and in-demand artists in techno’s present age. In 2003 he founded his own label Figure as a new platform to play out his eclectic and open-minded vision of techno music. At first an outlet for his own productions, Figure developed into a well recognized, highly acclaimed label. Since then Len Faki’s bone-dry but communicative execution style sets him apart as a true gentleman behind the turntables, an artist whose sets are based on raw passion and beauty, as well as triggering eruptions on the dance floor
Kornél Kovács (SWE)
Kornél is a DJ and producer born in Budapest and based in Stockholm, Sweden. HVOB perform live on stage and always with a drummer. HVOB’s album Trialog was released in spring last year and continues to attract unwavering international interest. This prompted an invitation to perform a Boiler Room set in Vienna, and their album were touted by American Thump magazine as a contender for an “Album of the Year” award.
Few people can boast the musical ability that Gabby has in so many forms – physically, vocally and technically. As a DJ today, she’s the lady of choice for techno and house for a number of the best club nights around Australia, holding residencies at both SPICE and S.A.S.H. in Sydney. As a producer, her few forays into the studio have led to ARIA chart topping releases and license requests from a handful of internationally released compilations alongside appearances on Ministry of Sound compilations. Her past collaborations with Elroy & Piper for ‘Point n Clap’ and with Craig Obey for ‘Gonna Have To Pay’ reached #2 and #7 respectively on the ARIA club charts

In recent months his own favourite sets have come in a range of settings, from Air/Contact in Tokyo, to Chicago’s Smart Bar, Berghain and fabric’s cocoon-like Room 1.
