Decoded Radio hosted by Luke Brancaccio presents OC & Verde

Firmly cemented in the playlists of the world’s A-List House & Techno DJ’s, OC & Verde are on everybody’s lips this year. Since breaking through in 2016 on Hot Since 82’s label Knee Deep In Sound with their Essential New Tune and Beatport Number 1 ‘Maasai.’ They have already stacked up releases on Truesoul, Octopus, Suara and Bedrock whilst gaining heavyweight support from the likes of Adam Beyer, Solomun, Joesph Capriati, Maya Jane Coles, Sasha, John Digweed, Tale Of Us and Maceo Plex.

This consistency has not gone unnoticed with the godfather of dance Pete Tong immediately naming OC & Verde as his “Ones to Watch” in 2017 and subsequently inviting the duo into the BBC Radio 1 Studios to be interviewed live on air as part of his ‘Final Credits’ feature alongside them delivering a 40 minute showcase for the Radio 1 ‘Tag Team Mix’. Their presence on Radio 1 has continued to resonate across the station with Danny Howard awarding them his ‘Friday Fire’ accolade for their seminal remix of Eli & Fur’s ‘Around You’ which has since gone Top 10 on Beatport Techno and lead to the guys being hailed as Pete Tong’s “New Names” for 2018.

Decoded Magazine welcomes back Ben and Jon, this time to feature as guests on Decoded Radio. It’s been 12 months since we last spoke and things have really been blowing up for the duo. Primarily, I wanted to get a bit geeky with the guys and interview them about their production mind, style and techniques. Unfortunately they were hard to pin down but they provided some words about a certain remix which has been doing the rounds of late which a lot of people have been asking about. OC & Verde have remixed Bedrock’s ‘Heaven Scent’ which is due for release on Bedrock which will be available from Beatport exclusively on 22nd October. So, the big question was did they see it as a risk to rework such a classic track?

“Some people say some classic’s should be left alone and 9 times out of 10 we would agree with that, but when we got the call from John Digweed to remix Heaven Scent we couldn’t pass on the opportunity. The original is a very special track for us, we followed Digweed all around the country as young ravers, he’s a huge inspiration to us musically from how we DJ to what we produce. When the original Heaven Scent came out we were 17/18 year old kids, we can remember hearing him play it at Gatecrasher in Sheffield and it blowing our minds! It was a massive risk taking it on, but when the offer came in to do it we just had to.”

They went on to explain early feedback and support gained for the rework:

“The feedback we’ve had on it has been amazing so far, so we’re super happy with that. John closed his set at Creamfields with it and Adam Beyer closed Drumcode Festival with it too, we couldn’t ask for more really. All the comments we’re getting on the remix have been so positive we feel that we’ve really done the original justice. We still can’t believe we got the chance to remix it in the first place.”

Furthermore, you can watch an in-depth break down of their track ‘Indica’ with Future Music Magazine where they discuss the use of the Pioneer Toraiz SP-16 in both their production and live sets, the Valhallaroom plugin they use to fill out the vocal and other elements in their tracks, how they work on their track arrangement stating “The elements dictate the structure of the track” and much more.
