Decoded Radio presents Toolroom Trax with Matt Smallwood

Toolroom Trax existed many years ago when Toolroom first started and was home to several massive tracks that went on to achieve legendary status. Seasoned fans will remember, and no doubt possess vinyl copies of Dubfire’s ‘Roadkill’ and Shlomi Aber’s ‘Blonda’. Toolroom stopped releasing music on Trax when it started competing for the same musical space as the flagship Toolroom label when everything switched to digital. Now, as the #RESET campaign has clearly demarcated Toolroom’s musical spectrum, it’s time for Toolroom Trax to return offering more underground, club-focused cuts.

Trax is a label made by and for DJs, it is a label dedicated to releasing music that will work on a dance floor and that DJs will reach for in their sets. The label is very much about looking to the future and will be releasing a series of EPs from up and coming artists that are destined for big things over the forthcoming year alongside established and respected artists and it aims to provide the very best solid, underground, groovy Tech House and Techno that will rock any dance floor.

“We want to go back to a time when DJs would buy every track on a particular label just because the label released consistently great music; you didn’t even need to hear the record before sticking it in your basket, as you trusted that label to deliver time and time again. It’s so exciting for us to have an outlet for the kind of music that so many people here at Toolroom are passionate about, so this is a really exciting project for us and a great opportunity for Toolroom to grow and mature”. – Toolroom

Decoded Magazine eagerly approached label manager Matt Smallwood for a label showcase mix in the first of our label feature series. Matt explains……

“When Mark sat me down and said he wanted to relaunch Trax and wanted me to run it, I pretty much bit his hand off! Personally back in the day when I was first getting into House and Tech House, the old Trax releases were every setters for me so to now be running the label that I respected so much all those years back, is just an amazing feeling.
Musically it’s exactly what I’m into. Tough, groovy and underground tech house and techno, stuff that moves a dance floor with plenty of energy and an irresistible groove! This showcase mix contains recent and forthcoming Trax releases and really encapsulates the full spectrum of sound that you can expect to hear on Toolroom Trax this year. Big thanks to the Decoded team for getting in touch and I hope you enjoy the mix!”
