Decoded Sundays – Our Editor Damion Pell takes the helm

It is not very often our Editor pops his head up on Decoded Magazine, more than often, preferring to blend into the background and give the spotlight to everyone else, but he reluctantly agreed to host this weeks Decoded Sundays Chill Mix.

Having been a DJ, Promoter, label owner, journalist, Editor for over 20 years along with working for the last 15 years in the Marketing and Operations of nightclubs around the world, Damion has a vast amount of music knowledge, experience and more than one funny story to tell of his years. Quite humble and away from the spotlight in his later years, even reducing his extensive bio to:

“Hmm, DJ, Promoter, Label owner, journalist, editor and owner of Decoded Magazine
I like long walks on the beach, holding hands and most types of music”

His Kollective Series of mixes are just as diverse as his career, ranging from downtempo, deep house, techno and progressive, whilst garnering  a massive following and respect amongst the wider music industry. He goes on to discuss his Decoded Sunday mix.

“Well, for one, it was pretty hard to narrow down so much good music, I wanted to go a little old skool, it has been decades since I have played most of this. The challenging part was not doing it on turntables as I used to play this stuff, I almost had to teach myself how to get back in the groove. It really just a mish mash of some amazing Sunday chill out tracks (each one has a special memory attached to it) myself and mates would kick back to after a massive weekend, head to the beach (Joys of being an Aussie) grab some beers and kick on until Monday.”

We hear you are quite diverse in your music “Well, I guess you could say that, I started off in 89 with hip hop, the likes of Two Live Crew, Erik B & Rakim, Public Enemy etc, actually, I almost made this mix and old skool hip hop jamm, maybe next time? It is always hard to define your music style, I never really followed one path, from early days of playing Hardcore, I was still into chill out, from my Trance days, was into Drum & Bass, if the music is good, then why not experiment? Anyway, I could have easily made this a 10 hour mix, going through the ages of music I have played, enjoyed or shared moments with friends. I hope you enjoy!”
