Decoded Sundays – Lauren Neko

This week we head to Sydney with Lauren Neko, delivering electric performances in DJing and vocal with a touch of glamour, groove, and defiance of House and Disco of yesteryear, Lauren is at home in queer clubs, house bars, lush rooftops and festival stages. As an ARIA Club Chart DJ, Lauren Neko is a vibrant contemporary force in the Sydney music scene, with residencies and headline performances at some of the city’s hottest venues. In a world full of DJs, what sets Lauren apart is her dedication to toplining and live vocals, with her sound being a rich fusion of House, Funk, and Disco influences

“When I was asked to do this mix, I was really keen to dig in. Straight out of school, I studied Jazz at uni. Looking for more modern interpretations, I used to love putting on Balearic-influenced compilations and doing improv on flute. Anything Cafe Del Mar was a particular favourite!  This was all before I was into any kind of Dance Music. I especially loved Electronica and trip-hop – It’s one of the reasons why I moved to Bristol in the UK, where I lived for three years.”

“This mix is a real mix of formative influences, including some more recent releases that fit the vibe. Vocal tracks like that of Goldfrapp and Crazy P. Stripped-back vibes I play in places like the beach clubs of Bali and Cloud 9 in Fiji. Small lashes of UKG, Acid, Afro, Lounge, Balearic and Jazz. Plus a couple of those ‘album only’ breather tracks to let you have a small pause and return through the journey. Enjoy!” – Lauren Neko
