AUGUST 10th – 15th 2017 THE GARDEN RESORT, TISNO, CROATIA
For six days, 3,000 Defected fans, house heads of all generations and their favourite DJs and musicians from around the globe united, making Defected Croatia 2017 the busiest festival at The Garden’s well-loved site so far this year. House superstars like MK, Eats Everything, Kenny Dope, Basement Jaxx, The Shapeshifters, Dennis Ferrer, Nightmares On Wax, Roger Sanchez and so many more rocked the main stages and boat parties to crowds of ravers hanging off every beat, while underground acts like Melé, Josh Butler, Jacky, CamelPhat, Dario D’Attis, Folamour and DJ Haus among plenty more created unforgettable moments at the Beach Stage and Olive Grove.
Building on last year’s inaugural Defected Croatia festival, 2017’s edition enjoyed record pre-sales and numbers across the week at The Garden site for the season, including the largest numbers of after-party attendees at the incredible Barbarella’s nightclub. But just like all Defected events, it was still a family affair; all the artists were only a handshake away from their fans who wanted to say hello or have a picture with their house music heroes. For those who hadn’t been lucky enough to get tickets, the Defected team live-streamed much of the activity, captivating over 9 million people via social media throughout the week and with 1.4 million people viewing the live Facebook videos alone.
Countless moments will live on in people’s memories, but there are a few that really stand out. Making a triumphant return to the festival, Karizma’s headline set on Day 3 was a particularly emotional highlight, closing the whole day with Bill Wither’s ‘Ain’t No Sunshine’. Boss Simon Dunmore’s youngest son joined the Simma Black boat party to drop his first ever record during a B2B with Low Steppa and Amine Edge & DANCE. Enhancing the programme with some old school garage, resident Sam Divine went B2B with Hatcha for an hour and a half of classic dance-floor killers. CamelPhat’s ‘Cola’ proved to be one of the defining tunes of the event, especially once Franky Rizardo dropped his upcoming remix to a packed-out Barbarella’s on Day 4. More incredible Barbarella’s moments happened when Classic Music Company descended, bringing Luke Solomon, Nick Curly, Honey Dijon and Eli Escobar, who played Talk Talk’s ‘It’s My Life’ to a full crowd at 6am while the sun came up on Day 6.
Throughout the week, festivalgoers were kept up-to-date with reminders about the daily programme via a dedicated WhatsApp group, allowing people to make enquiries for a truly personable customer experience for everyone. For a young festival, it’s Defected’s attention to detail and focus on bringing people together with great music that will no doubt give the festival a long and fruitful legacy. This is only the beginning!
With that in mind, Loyalty Early Bird tickets are available now for those that came this year and Early Bird tickets will be coming very soon. Sign up here for more information.
About Defected Croatia 2017
Defected Croatia 2017 welcomed festival-goers from around the world for six days of house hedonism on the Adriatic, across three daytime stages, twice-daily boat parties and night-time parties at Barbarella’s.
Defected joined forces with BE-AT.TV and Mixmag to host headliners like Eats Everything, Derrick Carter, MK and Kenny Dope on the Main Stage across the week, while on Friday and Sunday Glitterbox took over with Todd Terry, The Shapeshifters, Basement Jaxx, Claptone and more. The Beach Stage was the domain of hosts Classic Music Company, We Play House, Soul Heaven, 4 To The Floor, and Data Transmission with a mix of underground house heroes plus emerging stars like Soul Clap, Josh Butler, Monki and Ninetoes.
Not one but two boat parties set off daily on The Garden Resort’s infamous Argonaughty, with Defected, Deep Vision, Deepah Ones (aka Spen & Karizma), 4 To The Floor, Undr The Radr, Glitterbox, La Rocca, D-Vine Sounds, Frequently Flying, Simma Black, Classic Music Company, Traxsource and Origins supplying the party. Meanwhile every day the Pontoon saw the likes of Nightmares On Wax, Pete Gooding, Brown S and Sef Kombo providing the soundtrack on the beach.
After dark, Barbarella’s unique outdoor clubbing setting was curated by dance music heavyweights Edible, DFTD, Glitterbox, Defected and Dennis Ferrer’s Misfit Society. Spen & Karizma returned after their legendary performance last year and Sam Divine, Amine Edge & Dance, Low Steppa, Derrick Carter (as ‘Derrick Does Disco’), Franky Rizardo and plenty more brought each festival day to a close under the stars.
About the Garden Resort
With its superb sunshine record and a wide range of accommodation options, The Garden Resort is a truly unique setting. More than a music festival, Defected Croatia is a holiday in itself, with a range of venues running across the six days.
The Main Stage showcases headline artists from around the globe and is set in a tree-lined area of parkland just a short stroll away from the shores of the Adriatic. With waves lapping right up to the dance-floor and stunning views out to the islands, the Beach Stage provides a magical experience for DJs and festival-goers alike.
The legendary outdoor nightclub Barbarella’s Discotheque gives revellers the chance to experience what is today an almost unique opportunity: to dance under the stars until sunrise. Finally, twice-daily boat parties are held aboard the good ship, Argonaughty, an infamous old wooden vessel that will play host to unforgettable parties afloat.
A true slice of paradise in Croatia, the Garden Resort in Tisno combines azure Adriatic waters, shimmering sandy beaches, guaranteed sunshine, exquisite sunsets and starlit night skies that make for a fantastic festival setting as well as a completely viable summer holiday alternative.
Beyond its outstanding beauty, Croatia is also extremely affordable – accommodation, food and drink represent excellent value for money. Served by two airports with flights originating from over 50 cities around Europe, the Garden Resort is also highly accessible and there’s an extensive range of on-site accommodation from the more exotic – luxurious Airstreams, traditional Shikar tents or even yachts – in addition to well-presented apartments and DIY camping facilities. There are also varied off-site accommodation options to suit all budgets.
Located just a short walk or water taxi ride from the historic old town of Tisno, with its waterside bars, cafés and restaurants, the Defected Croatia site has both a true festival ‘feel’ and retains an intimacy so often missing from many contemporary electronic music festivals.
