Label: Crosstown Rebels
Dinky has demonstrated her creative, artistic abilities in many forms, from Ballet to classical piano to electronic music. Dinky’s influences from a young age have played a massive part in the sound she has sculpted today, and that sound has seen the Chilean-born producer and vocalist release on huge labels such as Cocoon, Sonic Groove and Traum.
This mesmerising 9 track LP brought to us by Damian Lazarus’ Crosstown Rebels, an unquestionably established world leader when it comes to releasing epic electronic music, filled with pure emotional content. ‘Casa’ incorporates an array of resonant, acidic sounds layered with a glorious vocal capable of drawing out spinal tingles. Dinky has incorporated all the artistic elements we have come to crave, the elements we are all here for.
We are shown a lighter, positively charged vibe in ‘Cut’. Major melodies and enlightened vocals fill the air with a shining light, whereas the grooving 303 of ‘Shooting Bodies’ opens the door to Dinky’s realm of driven electronica. Both of which contain all the essential cogs to keep our dancing body clocks ticking over. The mystical mix of reverberated vocals, over-driven basslines and punchy drums are rich throughout. Tracks like ‘Lackers’ and ‘Milk’ portray the musical wisdom of Dinky. Thought provocative is a phrase that comes to mind over and over!
‘Slowly’ demonstrates how effective a minimalist track can be when performed by an artist with a huge span of creativity at hand. Valor is sped up a notch in the track ‘Valentino’, a track designed to get us hyped! Thought provocative melodies and the soothing voice of Dinky deliver a plethora of aural tingles!
The final tracks on the album have a really different feel about them. ‘Wait’ feels very dark and emotionally heavy. You can sense the thought process, whereas in contrast, ‘Wakame’ has a really upbeat disco feel with a nice piano incorporated. I really enjoyed the sound she has created throughout. The unique drums Dinky has crafted sound and feel great!
This truly is a visionary album that shows the human side of electronic music which is sometimes forgotten in the process. It is a collection of harmonious melodies, affluent in memorable vocals and fine instrumental pieces. This beautiful album portrays Dinky’s struggles with pregnancy and gifts us with a genuine personal connection to Alejandra. She has done a truly wonderful job of getting her message across throughout and telling us her story in the art of her music.
