Eagles & Butterflies

British producer Eagles & Butterflies has something of a habit for flying under the radar, which is somewhat surprising given the obvious showing of talent that courses through his many productions. On Spread Your Wings part 3 (the latest in what’s become a very dependable series), he reminds us of the fact, with 4 tracks of varying soundscapes and attitude on show.

The laid-back sounds of ”Dymensions” introduces the EP amongst a bevy of dreamy synths and a riff that’s just enough to latch on to. Atmospheric but not pretentious, it displays a side of the producer we’re yet to encounter – but one that we most definitely approve of. The percussive laced ”Cosmo Astroid Banana Cupcake” is another spaced out track that’s give ample breathing space to really stretch itself. It’s a tightly produced track with many different faces, although all in all the track as an individual entity is enough to get lost in.

More foreboding and less tepid than its predecessors is ”Black Gold”, with its slippery rhythms and its purring bass leading us to another place that’s ripe for exploring. Finally, the curtain is brought down as ”El Paraiso” proves a skipping, playful number where the drums play the most pertinent of roles. It’s lighthearted but enjoyable stuff.

About the Author

A house music veteran, growing up with the sound before it was even called ‘house music’. A successful DJ and producer in his own right, an ex-label and record shop owner. It’s safe to say house and techno music has been a large part of James’ life for longer than most of today’s clubbers have been alive. Despite being a self-confessed ‘underground monkey’ James appreciates the adage ‘house is a feeling’, and that the scene is all about bringing people together no matter what sound you’re in to."
