Hommage welcomes Fabian Dikof to the fold with the ‘Selfmade’ EP. Fabian likes it deep, straddling that sweet spot between house and techno, blending heartrending melodies and deadly rhythms. His penchant for the deeper side of club music was inspired by the mighty Andre Lodemann, way back when Fabian was much younger. In the years since that pivotal moment, he has worked hard to become an accomplished producer in his own right, with releases on Get Physical, Sonar Kolective, Best Works Records and Lazy Days. Now he arrives on Hommage with a batch of ultra-fresh, melodic goodness.
Starting off with the title track, ‘Selfmade’ strums at your heartstrings with its melancholy riff. There’s a dark, wistful atmosphere to this cut, which features stirring guitar strings, a solemn low end and insistent motifs. Fabian cultivates the captivating energy, steadily pushing it higher and higher with precision and panache.
The second cut on this two-tracker starts off pretty understated. Hypnotic beats push things along as a cacophony of unusual sounds swirl around, a female voice adds an eerie edge to the track. Eventually Fabian picks up the pace, adding an excitable synth riff. As quickly as it appears, it’s subdued again as a mighty breakdown begins. The drama reaches a high point during this epic switch up, leading into an animated second half. A truly unique cut that closes the EP with class.
