Exclusive Premiere: Halina Rice – Sunken Suns

London based electronic producer and visual artist Halina Rice takes listeners through a VR inspired electronic journey of looping beats and a mesmerising spectrum of emotions. The otherworldly animated video created in tandem with multidisciplinary designer Jakob Macdonald is the fourth release in Halina’s New Worlds project, a series of tracks, each with their own visual identity and virtual world.

Halina speaks directly to her track’s lofty intentions: “I wanted to create something dark and strange and emotive. The track emerged after days spent generating sounds through synths and noise generators. I put a mass of effects on the sampled vocals and they seemed to develop a life of their own – like a half-heard transmission from another world.”

“I think the visuals are a really powerful reflection of the music – disturbing, abstract and hyperreal – the audio-reactive elements combine the music and picture together perfectly.”

‘Sunken Suns’ along with ‘Breaks’, ‘Terrain’ and ‘Spheres’ are instalments of a new self-released project showcasing a series of tracks focusing on creating unique worlds. Each one comprises both music and the creation of virtual worlds and uses mixed reality elements in performance. For Sunken Suns an AR filter is available on the artist’s instagram @halinarice_music. When viewing via a mobile phone the app mixes the viewers reality with the Sunken Suns world where silver globes emerge out of the floor and surround the viewer. Audiences will also be able to interact with these visuals in live venues as Halina start a series of live performances in 2022 (dates TBA).

The London-based artist is renowned for her vivid and eclectic style, using multiple effects and sampling to create original and experimental sounds. Uniting elements of ambient, electronic, percussive and bass music, her sound ranges from evocative and melancholic soundscapes to beat- driven, punchy tracks. Rice’s first album REDUX was released via independent label Blurred Recordings in 2017 to positive press reviews and radio play, described by FM Magazine as “a credible and exciting avant-electronic pearl” and in Clash magazine as a “world of fragmentary beauty”. Crossing boundaries between music and art her live performance brings visuals and music together to create an immersive audience experience utilising live projections and abstract graphics.

‘Sunken Suns’ is released on 12th November 2021.
