Five on Friday with Franklyn

As we finish up another brilliant week, we welcome Harry Franklyn to drop in with his 5 biggest tunes from his crate. He is one half of Moon Roq, whose Shine A Light On mix for The Ransom Note gave a decent sense of where his head is at, and he is the driving force behind Club Hiatus. He also promotes at KOKO Electronic, alongside a handful of other ventures that keep him busy.

As a DJ, his taste runs chuggy, punky and deep hypnotic, with acid house and techno never far from the record bag. It is the sort of selection that rewards patience rather than announcing itself in the first ten minutes, and it works because he knows what the room needs before the room does.

This Saturday he takes that world to KOKO, with a line up made up largely of friends and family and Paranoid London heading things up. Few venues in London carry the weight KOKO does, and few pairings make as much sense as an acid house lifer bringing his own crowd through the door.

We caught up with Harry for this week’s Five on Friday.

PBR Streetgang – Acid Mouth (Ruf Dug Remix)

Ruf Dug taking us on a one way ticket to chug city here – a nice pace setter to play through the strobes and the smoke. Sitting in good company next to PBR Streetgang’s originals + their atmospheric dub of Scotch Mist.

Decius – Russian Salad

More raw, stripped back brilliance from the dons of the dancefloor; Decius.

Tronik Youth – Body To Body (Asa Tate Remix)

Punchy acid-infused link up from two mates – myself and Tronik Youth had Asa Tate down to play at our regular party at The Glove That Fits back in May and this excellent remix followed a month or so later.

Megan Leo – Golden Eclipse

Great debut EP from a brilliant artist and friend; Megan Leo – released two years ago but found myself going back to it a lot recently.

Ess o Ess – Simply Nothing

A firm favourite on the USB stick that I also picked up on wax recently. Ess O Ess delivering yet another beauty to their ridicuously impressive catalogue, with some amazing percussion, dreamy synths, nostalgic vocals. What’s not to love.
