This week’s Five on Friday comes from London-based DJ Graham Brand, a selector whose tastes sit firmly in the grittier corners of the dancefloor. His sets pull from acid, techno and tech-house, and anyone who has spent time with his output will know he has a particular affinity for the kind of music that makes more sense at 3am than it does at midnight.
What sets Graham apart is less about genre-hopping and more about consistency of feel. His late-night sessions have become something of a calling card, the kind of sets that stretch well past the point most people have called it a night. His Five on Friday selection reflects that same sensibility, so clear some space in your schedule and let it run.
“Over the years I’ve always enjoyed sharing music with fellow music lovers in various ways. During a recent afternoon on the decks with my good friend Mark Baily (AKA MAN2.0), and feeling that out track selections went well together (no surprise after sharing music for 20 years), we decided to start DJing together under the name Year Zero. We hold occasional parties at Henge in Brixton, and so far, this year have found ourselves playing in Manchester with the Kibosh crew and in Birmingham for Justin Bond. We also have a monthly radio show on Slacks Radio which you can hear us on next Saturday at 8pm.” – Graham Brand
Owsley – There Are Doors
First off, a lovely bit of wobbly acid from a great EP.
Tom Middleton – Penrose Steps
Next up, a great track that just keeps on building and brought a lot of smiles to faces in Manchester (available on Beatport)
The Delinquents – Funktional
I’ve always been a huge fan of the Wiggle parties and this track from Terry Francis and Nathan Coles really hits the spot for me.
Nathan Fake – Outhouse (Main Mix)
I’ve always been a huge Border Community fan and will usually play something from the label given the opportunity.
Robert Hood – Power To The Prophet
And finally a track from Robert Hood as he’s had a huge influence on my taste.
