Flow Festival Helsinki announces first acts for 20th-anniversary celebration

Set in the Finnish capital of Helsinki, the renowned Flow Festival, a leading European boutique festival, marks its 20th anniversary from August 9th to 11th, 2024. The first wave of names have now been revealed, featuring acclaimed artists like Fred again.., Pulp, The Smile and PJ Harvey alongside numerous other top international and domestic talents.

Founded in 2004, Flow Festival has grown from an intimate club gathering of 4,000 attendees to a globally recognised music and city festival drawing over 90,000 guests. In 2007, Flow found its home in the striking old power plant grounds at Suvilahti in Helsinki, a site that has since become synonymous with the festival’s identity. During its twenty years of operation, Flow has established its place as one of Europe’s most unique festival experiences and, in the summer of 2024, will celebrate the past and future with a dazzling program.

Leading the charge is DJ and all-round electronic music luminary Fred again… Known for delivering explosive performances and streaming hundreds of millions with his biggest hits, the recently Grammy-nominated artist is sure to return to Flow Festival with a bang. Joining the illustrious roster is the iconic Britpop band Pulp, ready to set the stage ablaze with their signature art-rock swagger and infectious indie hooks, promising a nostalgic and fervent experience for festival-goers.

English rock band The Smile, comprising Radiohead’s Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood alongside jazz drummer Tom Skinner formerly in Sons of Kemet, will unveil their highly anticipated album “Wall of Eyes” in January, setting the stage for an eagerly awaited performance. Alongside them, iconic singer-songwriter PJ Harvey, who released her acclaimed album ‘I Inside the Old Year Dying’ earlier this year, will be performing at Flow for the first time.

With the ability to catch pioneers and influential greats across genres, eras and styles all at Flow Festival Helsinki – it becomes a weekend full of celebration and discovery of artists at the very top of their game. Among the stellar additions to next summer’s lineup are pop luminary Jessie Ware, whose brilliance shines brightly in the music sphere, the dynamic and versatile Denzel Curry from the forefront of today’s hip-hop scene, and the fleeting rise of Kenya Grace, whose colossal hit “Strangers” catapulted her into pop music stardom. Recognised for catering to DJ and club music lovers alike, this year’s festival presents rising DJ duo Overmono, the Berlin sensation Herrensauna, and the legendary New York DJ triad Joe Claussell, François K, and Danny Krivit, bringing their iconic club concept Body & Soul to captivate attendees.

Flow Festival not only hosts a lineup of global sensations but also shines a spotlight on Finland’s vibrant music scene. Among the domestic talents gracing the stage are hip-hop sensation ibe, the wildly successful Arppa performing a special gig titled Arppa & Sunnuntain seireenit, and Antti Autio, offering an exclusive performance of his entire new album set for release in spring 2024. Adding to the local flair is trumpeter Verneri Pohjola’s captivating super ensemble Monkey Mind, the experiential instrumental group Tinyhawk & Bizzarro enchanting audiences with their fresh soundscape, and the intriguing newcomer Joalin. Ensuring a vast mix showcasing the thrilling sounds of Finland that help shape one of Europe’s most forward-thinking and exciting cultures.

With this first announcement just a taste of a full broad, diverse and invigorating programme to be announced in the coming months, it once again sets Flow Festival Helsinki apart as a shining beacon of festival culture in the heart of one of Europe’s most incredible cities. With outstanding art installations, sensational top-quality restaurants and much more to be discovered – it’s a must for all looking for a unique experience next summer.
