For the ninth edition, Sommerøya is going back to it’s roots. Moving out of the downtown area of Oslo to the forested hillside of Ekeberg park

Sommerøya started its life on the idyllic island of Langøyene back in 2010, but since 2012 has been held in the city centre. The lush new arena will still have easy access for guests, with a tram trip from the central station to the festival area taking only 7 minutes. The venue has been in the works for several months with many involved.

The council has worked closely with the festival and both parties are very happy that a new cultural arena is getting developed in Oslo.

“Sommerøya have always had a unique atmosphere. Ekeberg will definitely lift the intimate and unique feeling of the festival that the guests appreciate so much!” says festival manager Anton Solberg.

Since 2010 Sommerøya has invited big-name DJs as well as emerging artists within the spheres of house, techno and electronica to people from Scandinavia. In addition to all the music, the festival presents both a fantastic art program and a knowledge program to run alongside, with the former consisting of installations and art performances, as for the knowledge program it presents topical debates, lectures and workshops; all with referrals to club music.

“There’s always been a unique arena at Sommerøya and with the location at Ekeberg and its beautiful summer sunset – this year it’s going to surpass itself again.” concludes press officer Tina Marie Borgholt.
