Review by Andy Howarth
Mad Hatter White are back with a new EP from Greg Fenton. His Closer EP features 3 original tracks and a rework of the title track as an added bonus.
Title track ‘Closer’ is a piano led Houser which marries an upbeat summertime riff with a fierce bassline. Whilst it doesn’t cut any new ground, it’s a nice track on the whole and would serve well as something to build from during the earlier stages of the night. The Beatmode dub version retains most of the same elements, whilst dispensing with the piano keys.
‘Dot Dash’ sees Greg delve into Progressive territories, with some carefully crafted atmospherics layered nicely over a warm techy bassline. It’s very nicely put together, and offers something completely different to the title track.
Closing up the EP is Fenton’s track ‘Fastfwd’, which sits comfortably between the two previous tracks in terms of sound. This was probably my least favourite of the release, but that’s just personal preference for you. Overall, it’s another solid outing from the MHW imprint, with enough here to appease most House DJs. Top stuff.
