Guy Gerber is arguably one of the most versatile and high profile DJs on the planet, which makes it even more surprising that it’s been almost 3 years since the Israeli performed in Australia (as part of the Future Music Festival). Taking his musical cue’s from acts like Joy Division and My Bloody Valentine, he has released his fairly epic productions on labels including Cocoon Recordings, Seth Troxler’s Visionquest Records and John Digweed’s Bedrock Records, alongside his own labels, Supplement Facts and Rumors. He’s even released a collaborative album with hip-hop superstar Puff Daddy entitled ’11 11′.
Gerber is consistently rated as one of the world’s best live acts in dance music: Resident Advisor have placed him in their top ten live performers for three consecutive years. His sets are famous for his use of lush live synths and the ability to take an audience through a mesmerising journey where melancholy somehow meets euphoria. He is also known for his extended sets, once playing a 12-hour DJ set at Burning Man in 2014. This year has seen Gerber travel the globe touring all the major festivals and clubs alike, and now, he has Australasia in his sights…
His career has taken various twists and turns. He’s launched two labels, Supplement Facts and later Rumors in 2014, the latter of which housed Gerber’s huge collaborative track ‘No Distance’ with Dixon. He also launched Wisdom of Glove, a weekly event at Ibiza’s Pacha where he held a residency. He later launched Rumors, a club night that began at Pacha Ibiza in 2014 and moved to Destino Ibiza in 2016, the night boasts resident DJs such as Sasha, Audiofly, Dubfire, Lauren Lane and more. The success of Rumors has been so great that they have thrown parties in London, Miami, Mexico and this year it debuted in LA.
Gerber’s productions are often unpredictable, but his latest EP Secret Encounters is his first solo release on Rumors and is everything that he’s known for, described by himself as ‘dark, enigmatic house and techno’.
This year, Gerber has travelled the world touring festivals and clubs alike and he’s set to continue with dates in Australia and Bali throughout December and into the New Year. His career has been mysterious, eclectic and exciting, where it will take him next is anyone’s guess but you can rest assured it will be a wild ride.
