Guy J returns to John Digweed’s Bedrock label which some people are tipping as his most eagerly awaited and best release to date. This track has featured in many of his sets of the past few months, and has been the subject of many a social media discussion. The release has three original productions by Guy J, “Candyland”, “Once In Blue Moon”, and “Lonely Colour”.
First up on the release is the title track, “Candyland”. The question is where to begin when reviewing this track so I will just dive straight in. This is a track that is filled with a euphoric beauty that only Guy J and a very limited number of producers can create these days. The keys and melodic wonderment are layered on top of what is essentially a breaks style beat. Think about tracks like Burma by Lostep and you will not be far off, and no I am not exaggerating! This is a superb production.
Next up on the release is “Once In Blue Moon” which is a slow and spacey track that is just perfect warm up material. The track is layered very well, and builds superbly with some very cleverly laid out effects, and sublime dark sounding keys that sit on a very warm and luscious bassline. It is just one of those goose pimple tracks that you will need to stand back and admire if heard in a club… Simply sublime!
The final track on the release is “Lonely Colour” and this is a full on dance floor related progressive number. The track follows a great groove and stabby bassline that, as you would expect, is filled with that warmth and love from Guy J. It is one of those tracks that has been big for the likes of Hernan Cattaneo over recent months.
A three track release that is just filled to the brim with production quality, sublime melodies, and luscious emotion. You will definitely not be disappointed folks!
