Ilario Alicante picks his top 10 influential Cocoon releases

Born in late 1988 under the beautiful Livorno’s sun in Italy, the “enfant prodige” Ilario Alicante starts to raise his passion for music at the earliest years of his life when his mother educated him to listen to music for his own pleasure. As time goes by and Ilario takes his first steps into the Italian nightlife and DJ world, first with some average media, experimenting D.I.Y. mixes within the four walls of his own “epic” room and then digging a personal sound style until he gained the resident-title at Pachamama Club in Pisa.

From this springboard he started hanging around the best Italian, German and Spanish clubs finally landing into Cocoon‘s family. Falling in love at first “sight” with house music and her thousand shades waving from Latino-Hispanic to a minimal-electro sound. At this point he devoted his production style only to these rhythms, also his DJ-sets are stuck to the quest of something special every time.

Heavily inspired by artists such as Hawtin, Marco Carola, Villalobos and Luciano a great bunch of Ilario’s production are highly estimated inside the international DJ circuit. His track ‘Vacaciones en Chile’ directly catapulted Ilario into the house music business defining his supernatural talent with ‘Living Near Africa’ on Nick Curly & Marc Scholl’s imprint Cecille.

Ilario is inexhaustibly performing in the worlds best clubs under the flag of Sven Vath‘s Cocoon family and Deep Moves Records, his own record label. As he has been one of the leading figureheads of the label and party series for 8 years now it only seems fitting that he steps up for a label focused feature with his choice of influential tracks in no particular order which have shaped Cocoon as a label, exclusively for Decoded Magazine.

01. Guy Gerber and Shlomi Aber – Sea Of Sand
This track is so psychedelic. I feel like you get a sense of god-like magic when you play it.

02. Loco Dice – Carthago
A modern cornerstone of minimalist production.

03. Cobblestone Jazz – W
One of my favourite songs to play during a set. It’s very euphoric and made for the dancefloor.

04. Argy – Unreliable Virgin
The synths on this are heavenly. Reminds me of early Giorgio Moroder.

05. Lucio Aquilina – Magic M
I have so many beautiful memories attached to this song. It never gets old for me.

06. Guy Gerber – Timing
This is an epic techno track. So dark and sonically expansive. It really takes you on a journey.

07. Reboot – The Unspoken Word
Very serene and soothing. It puts you in a peaceful mood.

08. Ilario Alicante – Modern Apocalypse
A personal favourite. 6 years later, I still have people telling me how much they’ve resonated with this song.

09. 2000 and One – Tropical Melons
The bass on this song is insane. No matter where I play this, no matter who the crowd is, they go crazy.

10. Oliver Koletzki – Der Mückenschwarm
Oliver is a master at what he does, and this song is the best representation of that.

Ilario Alicante’s Luce EP is out on Cocoon 7th September
