In Conversation with Dr. Cornel West, Seth Troxler, Brandon Lucas & Andrae Alexander at Rave the Vote

On October 2nd and 3rd we welcomed the series finale of Rave the Vote, a livestreaming event dedicated to stimulating voter registration amongst the dance music community through a variety of voting PSAs, educational segments, and livestream performances.

As part of the programming, internationally traveled musician and USC Thornton School of Music lecturer Andrae Alexander sat down to moderate a conversation between the renowned philosopher, activist and iconic professor Dr Cornel West, veteran producer Seth Troxler and burgeoning label boss and house music DJ Brandon Lucas.

The conversation features Seth Troxler discussing music’s ability to effect social change, and Dr Cornel West espousing the power of Black music to help overcome catastrophe and the importance of raising your voice in protest and contemporary music’s role in the protest movement.

The video also is serves as an introduction to Purple Label Sound – the new label from Brandon Lucas, which just debuted “Got That Hope,” a track featuring Dr Cornel West and Brandon Lucas. Purple Label Sound was formed by Lucas to champion a new generation of Black and brown house and electronic music artists and producers.
