Over the last five years, Jackmaster, aka Glasgow’s Jack Revill, has established himself as one of the most admired and in-demand DJs in the world. His lack of musical prejudice, an open-minded approach and ability to adapt to any given situation are just some of the reasons why year after year he has retained his popularity with the masses, climbing number five in last year’s Resident Advisor DJ poll. Now Jackmaster and his Numbers crew are upping the ante with a new series of events hitting London, Glasgow, Dublin, Amsterdam, Manchester and Lisbon first.
“The idea behind Mastermix was to give me the chance to showcase my wider musical tastes and invite a mix of DJs that best represent where my head is musically right now to play alongside me at some of my favourite clubs in the world.” – Jackmaster
Playing these parties are artists and friends who have inspired them over the years. Innovators like Gene Hunt, Mr G, Ricardo Villalobos and Marcel Dettmann… DJ’s that know how to bring the party – Gerd Janson, Midland, Seth Troxler, Ryan Elliot, Bicep, Martyn, Leon Vynehall, Pearson Sound, Tom Trago, Krystal Klear, Kyrsko, Cinnaman, William Kouam Djoko and Peggy Gou. As always there will be a Glaswegian presence at each event with Spencer, Jasper James and Denis Sulta repping their hometown.
Jackmaster has been obsessed with music ever since his early years working at the legendary record store Rubadub in his native Glasgow, a place he continues to cite as the source and starting point for his unmatched sound. A self-confessed superfan of both Prince and Dance Mania and dedicated collector of disco and funk gems and rarities, Revill was involved in collectives and labels like Dress 2 Sweat and Wireblock before founding Numbers with his friend Spencer.
Jack’s rose to prominence thanks to his wide-ranging taste, and ability to surprise: something that makes it impossible to know for certain which musical direction his sets will take. It is also worth noting that Jackmaster is one of a handful of DJs on the international scene who has remained at the top without the need to produce or remix, relying almost exclusively on his innate skills and talent on the decks to thrive and prosper. You never know exactly what you’re going to hear with Jackmaster. The element of glorious surprise is crucial to his sets.
“Music was my escape when things were bad at home. Music was the bond that brought me and my best friends together, particularly Spencer who taught me how to DJ and who I’d hang out with every day mixing records. Music became my drive to do something with my life.” – Jackmaster
Now in it’s 13th year, Numbers keeps on evolving. It’s a party where Joy Orbison, Levon Vincent, Floating Points, Dopplereffekt, Autechre, Ghostface Killah, DJ Deeon, Danny Brown have played. It’s a label releasing music by Lory D, SOPHIE, Adesse Versions, Kornel Kovacs, Mosca, Rustie, Jamie XX, Randomer. In addition, Numbers create one-off festivals and art installations but most of all is a crew of old friends whose life is music.
