Artist: John Debo
Title: The Turn/I’m Coming Down
Label: Fade Records
John Debo is a man that has certainly made his mark on the underground dance music scene in the U.S. His nights at Axis and Avalon in Boston are legendary and helped pave the way for the East Coast’s flourishing electronic music scene especially in terms of the more progressive sound. When I was presented with this promo I just knew it had to be played on a loud system and could not wait to hit the play button on the CDJ.
John’s latest 2 track release has been put out on Chris Fortier’s US based Fade Records and sees John move from his more progressive tripped out vibe to a more full on techno orientated sound. “The Turn” is a track filled with some incredible synth lines and some outstanding percussion. The track does not mess about and gets down to business from the off. The 909s are heavy and filled with purpose and the tripped out and slightly unnerving synth just penetrates your brain to the point of madness. I simply love this crazy track! It just makes you want to lose yourself on a dark dance floor with nothing more than a massive speaker stack and a strobe! Top work here Mr Debo!
The second track on the release is “I’m Coming Down” which is slightly more sophisticated than the opener and a little less crazier but don’t let that put you off or make you believe it is not as good! You would be very wrong! The track is filled with a delightful warm, key changing bassline that is reminiscent of those old Luke Chable tracks that used to shake the wall of any Digweed or Sasha set. This is one for all you DJs that like to flirt between progressive and techno. Simply divine!!!
A great release here by John Debo on a label that we all know does not disappoint. Hunt for these tracks when they are released and buy them! Great release that I can not recommend enough!
