Unless one has been living under a rock, most underground fans would be well aware of the fantastic Bedrock project ”Versus”, last year by John Digweed and Nick Muir. The duo teamed up with some of the most talented bunch of DJs and producers from the House and Techno scene to create 12 exclusive dance floor bombing tunes that are simply unforgettable.
Fast on its heels, Bedrock goes even further to establish how iconic and inspiring the concept is by releasing a series of singles from the original “Versus” album tracks, and have invited some of the other leading lights of the dance music industry to tweak and fashion it with their own handiwork. The first formidable outing came from Extended Play with ”Morphism”, tackling John Digweed & Nick Muir vs Pig&Dan, just in case fans want to get their hands on it.
In the here and now, the mighty Bedrock label goes the distance with its second outing and the spot-light falls solely on the one and only King Unique turning ”Dawnbreaker” in to another kind of musical heaven. Remember the original was a collaboration between Digweed & Muir vs Ian O’Donovan. The remix starts off with an unhurried swag all around it evoking all sorts of memories of a hazy, lasered club outing. The inside has an ornate bass thud, a sparkling bubbling melodic pad doing its pulsing thing. King Unique’s work has dollops of focus on a fat bottomed bassline reverberating around the synth line, off centered riffs all doing everything they can to make dancers’ sway at a hypnotic pace. All I can think of is how combining all of this has brought out a great Techno chugger from the Matt Thomas stables.
