King Britt would describe his music as a journey, and what a journey it has been for the creative mastermind. The House pioneer, with releases ranging from labels such as Strictly Rhythm and Nervous Records to musical scores for Michael Mann’s Miami Vice, certainly has a lot to shout about. The original 12” was one of exclusive status when it was first released back in 2002, now it’s back, reworked, remixed and remastered epically.
The instantly recognisable bongo groove accompanies the distinguished tributes to the original all throughout. King Britt’s Scuba Mix brilliantly changes things up with a freshly composed bassline, adding a real funk to the tropical beats. Modulated strings give the track a different, melodic and emotionally in touch feel, a spark of extra excitement. The producer has once again shown his flair keeping the underlying glow of the original intact whilst completely reimagining the record.
Love over Entropy took on the task of remixing the fabled original and showed spectacular talent in doing so. The parts he used were artistically sampled from the 12” version and layered with his delightful arrangement of tech sounds. Melodic chimes and sequenced beats make up a remix with all the essential ingredients to warm up the atmosphere and get us grooving.
Lossless artist SBTH adds a rolling, acidic low end, the bright plucks, shiny strings and assortment of effects gift us with a really satisfying, techy climax and caps off a remix pack people have been hoping and waiting for for 14 years.
Something Happening Somewhere and Lossless teaming up to release this fabulous remix pack is great to see. It’s not often you see a collaboration by labels and it is a reminder of that constant that unites people all over the world, the magic of music.
