Hive Audio has long been a go to outlet for contemporary house music with a twist. Here the label serves up two more inventive house cuts from Kotelett & Zadak, a mature Berlin duo who have appeared on a number of labels before now. Their well produced sounds jump out of the speakers and are full of life, as this EP proves once more.
First up, Moonside of the Dark is a slow burning jam with a playful melody phrases riding up and down the scale in off kilter ways. Ever present pads back the whole thing as does a sharp metallic percussion. After a monster breakdown the thing drops again and will no doubt send hands skyward. The flip is Nele, with its hollow metal hooks, rubbery and swaggering kick drums and filtered, dark robotic vocals. Drums fills bring tension and the whole thing works to ward a frenetic peak before imploding in some style.
