KVLTÖ Records release Daughters Of The Drums by Sarah Kay

KVLTÖ continues to use its LTD series as a proving ground for artists worth watching, and the fourteenth instalment hands the floor to Sarah Kay. Her debut, Daughters Of The Drums, arrives with the kind of considered structure that suggests she has spent rather more time studying the form than rushing to release.

This is techno in its functional sense. The percussion does the heavy lifting, driving forward without resorting to the brute-force tactics that have flattened so much of the current peak-time output. Underneath, the atmospheric layers sit deep in the mix, giving the track texture without ever crowding the rhythm. The balance is the thing here. Energy without compromise, weight without theatrics.

It is a confident first move from Kay, and a sensible addition to a series that has built its reputation on signing producers with something specific to say rather than chasing names. Worth a listen, and worth keeping an eye on what comes next.
