Figure label head and Berghain resident Len Faki drops a 3 diverse cuts of remixes of a under his Hidden Objects series. Each one explores a different facade of Faki’s creative process. The EP starts with a remix of the original ‘Suspended’ from Philippe Petit. The track would fit the bill for his usual sets, if a bit on the more melodic side. With a signature low end working in unison with a modulating riff, there is a feeling of the track evolving throughout.
Next up is a remix for Glaswegian duo Slam of their recent release of ‘Cirklon Bells’. Here Faki takes a more left field electronica flavoured approach with an vey industrial edge. As the track progresses and ambient pads come into mix which at first I was not sure of but as it progresses ducking and diving in between the percussive elements. Mid way through piano chords add an unappreciated but lovely twist. A side of Faki which I have not seen before hence the point of the EP.
Finally the last track and moving onto the B side is back to the four to the floor and this time Scuba‘s ‘Black is Black’ is up for a rework. Again a new angle is taken with this production coming under the remit of deep house I feel with some washy techno hi hats and shakers later introduced. As with the previous tracks some spacey ambient pads and stabs throughout round up this interesting EP from the German producer.
