Life of an international DJ: ANNA takes us behind the scenes of her recent US tour

Brazilian DJ and producer ANNA is sitting firmly at the top of her game. She has enjoyed a stellar line up of releases over the past two years on labels including Diynamic, Terminal M, Tronic and Turbo which you can read all about here. Remixes this year alone came in the form of Joyce Muniz on Exploited, DJ Tonio on Suara, Matador on his own imprint Rukus, as well as a killer remix for Wehbba on Hot Since 82’s label Knew Deep In Sound. After a busy and successful summer, September was the start of her very first US Tour, and Decoded was allowed a sneak peak into her touring life.

September 2nd 2016 – Nocturnal Wonderland, San Bernadino
I have never been to the USA before, for gigs or even a vacation, so I was really looking forward to it. I set off on the long flight to Los Angeles from Barcelona for my first gig on the 2nd September which was in San Bernadino for the Nocturnal Wonderland Festival.

This was the first gig of the tour and as I was due to play early on the stage, I expected it to maybe not be that busy, but when we arrived I was surprised at how many people were there already, and by the end of the night it was packed. It was such a beautiful festival, the production and everything about it was just perfect! I was so happy to have played here and for it to be the start of my tour.

This picture was taken with some amazing fans at Nocturnal Festival – they told me that they drove over 5 hours just to come and watch me and the festival!! Plus they actually made these t-shirts themselves so I did this picture with them in their honor!

September 3rd 2016 – Vinyl, Denver CO
This was a pic of my view from the DJ booth at Vinyl in Denver. It was a packed out night and I want to thank all the fans for coming out and staying out ALL night to the very end!

September 4th 2016 – Sun City Music Festival, El Paso NM
My 3rd show of the tour took me to Sun City Festival in EL Paso! I was on the Beatport stage there where the line up was so amazing – I was playing with Josh Wink, Loco Dice, Matador and Pleasurekraft. I loved the way the stage was designed and how my logo looked from the crowd! This was me and Matador backstage at Sun City. I love his music so much and I have just done a remix of his rack “Stanleys” for him on the Ructions Remix EP2 package. I really enjoyed working with him and we are already planning another project that will come out on his label Rukus in 2017.

I also had the honor of sharing the stage with one of my idols – Josh Wink. After his set, we sat down and chatted for a little while. He is so nice and humble. I really do hope I can share the stage with him again in the future.

September 9th 2016 – AlphaHyper, San Diego CA
I wasn’t that well during the show in San Diego, but thankfully I managed to play. AlphaHyper puts on an amazing warehouse party, great production and a really fantastic crowd too. One of the policies of the party was “No pictures and no movies” – so I don’t have anything to show you! This is a picture of my US agent Jon Sax from Liaison Artists. It’s the first time I have actually met him in person as he is based in the USA. He is a great guy and so professional, I really loved being able to spend time with him during my tour.

September 10th 2016 – Audio, San Francisco CA
My last gig on the tour was in San Francisco at a club called Audio. The promoter of the club took us all for a nice dinner before the show at a Japanese restaurant – I love Japanese food! The guys told me that the Stanton Warriors were also playing a show on the same night in the city and they ended up joining us for dinner! All of the venues I played on my first tour were amazing. The promoters, artists who played with me, the hospitality and of course, all the fans who came out to see me; some of those who travelled so far! It was a very hectic week, and I was actually really unwell during some of the shows, so I have to say a huge thank you to the promoters helping me out and bringing me medication!

Feeling exhausted, the last night in San Francisco with a lovely dinner was a fitting end to a busy week of airplanes, airports, hotels and clubs! For now, I have unfortunately had to cancel my Ultra Asia dates in Bali and Singapore due to Dr’s advice, but I’ll be back for Ultra Brazil on the 14th October.
