lovetempo is the project of Brooklyn-based musician and vocalist Mattie Safer, also known for his work with Poolside and The Rapture. Blending soul, disco, house, and jazz-funk with soul-baring tenderness and an ear for rhythmic detail, lovetempoโs music is made to move you, emotionally, spiritually, and physically. Itโs a project born from longing, shaped by introspection, and driven by a belief in transformation through love and music.
Following a string of acclaimed releases, including 2025โs Live Or Die By Love, the breakout singles โMaybe In Another Lifeโ and โBut I Do,โ and a self-titled debut on Razor-N-Tape, lovetempo hasearned support from tastemakers like Gilles Peterson and Laurent Garnier, along with airplay on BBC 6Music, KEXP, and KCRW. Safer now returns with a debut full-length album, There Is A Light.
Introduced in fall 2025 by the singles โThe Right Wayโ and โWanna Be With You,โ the album charts a journey from heartbreak and self-doubt into healing, connection, and self-acceptance. It is Saferโs most personal and expansive work to date, a record about rediscovering your inner light and refusing to give up on love.
Sonically, the album expands lovetempoโs palette, drawing from electronic soul and 70s-inspired dance music while venturing into warmer, stranger, and more emotionally adventurous terrain. Tracks like โNever The Sameโ and โBut I Doโ twist club music into warped, jazzy shapes, while โWanna Be With You,โ โThinking About You,โ and โBy Your Sideโ explore the softer edges of quiet-storm R&B, Latin groove, heartbreak funk, and ambient soul. The title track, โThere Is A Light,โ arrives as a spare, joyful electronic gospel anthem, defiant in its optimism.
