The Birmingham house and techno scene is burgeoning at the moment, with a host of new venues and promoters popping up. One particularly exciting upcoming addition is Magnify, a brand dedicated to bringing a melodic techno sound to the second city. The brainchild of Birmingham locals Junior Campbell and Josh Parry, Magnify is firmly focused on providing quality music and quality vibes, and nurturing upcoming local talent while also bringing big international artists to Birmingham.
“It’s the brainchild of over a year of talking and brainstorming with the other half of Magnify, Josh Parry! We met on a night out 5 years back through a mutual friend. We’d been speaking about doing something for a while but with him having a little girl and me being in Ibiza every summer, nothing really materialised. To be honest it was a little to do with where the scene was in Birmingham over the last few years as well, as the sound we wanted and have eventually gone for was probably a little too niche a few years ago, but the scene in Birmingham now is absolutely booming! So after a few long nights, and to be honest hardly any disagreement on what path we’d take, Magnify was born.” – Junior Campbell, Magnify
Diynamic duo Undercatt will be visiting from Italy to headline the opening party at Lab 11 on February 6. They will be joined by London’s Third Son, who enjoyed a stellar 2015 with releases on labels including Noir and Sincopat, and a touring schedule that took him to OFF Week in Barcelona, Space Sharm el Sheik in Egypt and the Sincopat Showcase at ADE. Taking resident status at Magnify will be local duo Walking With Kings, who have produced a plethora of spectacular melodic techno of late and have big things in front of them as both DJs and producers. The lineup on the opening night will be completed by up and coming Manchester DJ, Obscured. Reinforcing their position as a music-oriented brand above all else, Magnify are also releasing a podcast series under the title That Magnify Sound, with the opening podcast performed by Walking With Kings.
Magnify opens on February 6, with monthly parties thereafter. Deeper, more melodic techno sounds are really killing it in clubland right now, so Magnify is sure to be a welcome addition to the second city’s party calendar, one that promises quality curation by music lovers, for music lovers.
