Mantra Collective Records launch with David Gtronic (Vatos Locos/Berlin)

Local pioneers of the underground Mantra Collective have been throwing some of Sydney’s most raucous parties for more than 5 years now. Always a step ahead of the zeitgeist, their expertly-tuned ears have brought you the likes of Barac, Enzo Siragusa, Archie Hamilton, East End Dubs, Dana Ruh, Diego Krause plus more and seen them work with major institutions such as Vivid Sydney and Subsonic Music Festival.

Now they bring that careful curation to their newest venture – Mantra Collective Records – their new imprint that launches this Easter Long Weekend at Civic Underground with David Gtronic (Vatos Locos/Berlin) – who will be the first release on the vinyl only label later this year.

In this release – MCR001 – Patior EP, David Gtronic demonstrates his slightly darker side in two carefully considered arrangements. Patior contorts a bassline around a driving, textural foundation with a vocal guaranteed to bring moments of dance-floor clarity. Layers of rolling percussion, dubby abstractions, and a writhing low end compliment each other in the powerful Amvian.

Romania’s VID takes elements from both A-side cuts with his Patiormvian Reconstruction mix, fusing incidental sounds with his renowned atmospheric approach. Balance is found and respect demonstrated in this moving interpretation.

When it comes to the label artwork, Mantra Collective have enlisted one of the most forward thinking artists from Romania – Cote – famed for using a multitude of projectors, cutting edge software and countless hours of mapping to develop incredible visual experiences at festivals like Sunwaves and the legendary Mantra Collective x SASH x Vivid Sydney collaboration called “Inner Space”.

The approach taken in the curation of this first outing can only draw attention to the development and growth currently occurring Down Under. Previews will be available in the coming weeks but you will be able to hear it first at the launch party this Easter Long Weekend.

David Gtronic (Vatos Locos/Berlin)

David relishes the challenge of crafting techno that reveals itself gradually to the careful listener, emotions embossed into his pounding rhythms by way of subtle textures and melodies that lay deep beneath the surface.

Known for his bass driven, percussive sound but it’s those obscured flourishes of organic elements that colour his sound which really set him apart from the pack. He’s released on labels such as Vatos Locos, Suara, Monique Musique, Kina Music, and Chelsea Hotel Records to name a few, as well as collaborations with Santos, Hector and Leon have found support from the likes of techno deities including Richie Hawtin, Marco Carola, Loco Dice, Dubfire among others.

His podcast series “The Terrace” has grown since launching in August 2008 to reach almost 2,000,000 downloads in total, showcasing his eclectic and carefully-crafted journey-style DJ sets to listeners across the world. The series has become a musical diary for David, not only expressing himself musically but through the artworks he creates for each episode. Whatever he puts his hands to, it’s always imbued with the sense of musical mysticism and contrast between the natural and the artificial that he strives to bring to life.

Most recently David has been involved with the development of the brand Vatos Locos, with label boss Hector and core members Chad Andrew, Hanfry Martinez, Javier Carballo, Randall M and Sece which has lead to events all over the world and most recently the launch of the Vatos Locos Label.

David’s stock has risen further still, with each release continuing to cement his reputation as one of techno’s more adventurous and musically-minded producers.
