Recognised in equal measures for his expert command of the dance floor, his heavyweight productions and his close affinity to the Paradise and Hot Creations family, Mark Jenkyns has become an undeniable stalwart of the house and techno scene with an impressive and ever-expanding list of accolades that includes release on Suara, Crosstown Rebels, Hot Creations, Defected and VIVa.
The Newcastle native has always relied on skills and talent to prove himself, and with his most recent ‘Sirens EP’ landing on Hottrax and hitting the overall Beatport top 10 within just three days, it’s easy to understand why he holds residencies at Paradise and Abode in Ibiza, and elite party brands like Elrow and VIVa Warriors have him featuring on line-ups across the globe.
With an impressive Autumn/Winter run of shows that will see Mark hit dancefloors from Ibiza to South America, the real icing on the cake comes as an invitation from the Hot Creations boss himself, Jamie Jones, for Mark to join him on a tour as his official warm up DJ. Understanding the intricacies and nuances involved when reading and warming up a crowd is an often underestimated skill, but one that has seen Mark carving a niche for himself in an unforgiving industry.
A firm believer that positivity helps drive success, unwavering support for Mark’s music comes from a vast range of names across the electronic music scene, from Richy Ahmed, Groove Armada and Riva Starr, to Pete Tong, Annie Mac and Danny Howard – with a fresh focus on production and big plans for 2018, expect to see a lot more names added to that list in the not too distant future.
Exclusively for Decoded Magazine Mark runs down his Top 10 tracks from Paradise Ibiza 2017.
#1 Matthias Tanzmann – Frenzy
Taken from his album it’s a serious groover that just works every time, I’m a massive fan of his and love his work.
#2 Denney – OOLA
The percussive melody in this track is pretty amazing, I play it most sets to be honest.
#3 Tom Demac – Aurora Dawn
This tune is just proper lush, I’m a massive Tom Demac fan and this is just class.
#4 Mark Jenkyns featuring Mizbee – Reach For Me
One of mine that seems to hit the spot – Mizbee has an incredible voice, I’ve got a few projects lined up with her now.
#5 Secondcity – Getting Down
There’s no other way to dress it up – this is just an absolute class house tune. One you can rely on every time.
#6 Chris Hartwig – Groove Marmalade
Another one that seems to just go off, one of my favourite tech house tunes and perhaps one of the tastiest track names in dance music?
#7 Javi Bora – Buzzing (Ronnie Spiteri Remix)
I love Ronnie’s stuff and this tune is no exception. It works really well with the twisted up vocal in the break.
#8 Josh Lee – Lorena
Excellent groovy track with a really nice pace that picks a crowd up – one to drop when you need to start getting things moving a bit more.
#9 J Russell – Piano Keys
This is something that is great to end sets with. I’ve played it all summer – love it, it has a twisted piano melody that just grabs you and stands out.
#10 Mark Jenkyns Feat. Mizbee – Sirens
Finally, I will have to say my track Sirens as it’s done the business for me and many others all summer. The vocal from Mizbee is amazing – it was actually a recording of her doing some vocal warm ups rather than an intentional recording, it just fit the track perfectly.
