Alfa Romero might only be a few releases in, but they’ve already made an impression with fans of discerning house thanks to their many eclectic vibes, most of which tend to revolve around an eerie palette. For the latest in the label’s story, they welcome aboard Matteo Spedicati, a compatriot of theirs who’s lent his name to numerous seminal labels over the past few years.

Up first on the EP is the original strands of ‘Never Let Us Go’, a succinct house tune that’s notable for its luscious and catchy synths especially. Gliding over the track, they help to result in a heavyweight bassline that works a treat alongside the track’s sensuous vocal line. Ben Hoo’s remix is a much darker affair, as he brings us deeper than the ocean on an interpretation that’s laden with nimble and dexterous hues aplenty. Subtle and supple, Hoo uses the vocal as a particularly adept foil to matters elsewhere. A stunning example of how to pair the two, it’s Hoo who enjoys the lion’s share of the plaudits here thanks to a remix that’s an exercise in the skill. That said, both tracks pack a punch, and it’s not hard to find something you’ll likely dig in here.

A house music veteran, growing up with the sound before it was even called ‘house music’. A successful DJ and producer in his own right, an ex-label and record shop owner. It’s safe to say house and techno music has been a large part of James’ life for longer than most of today’s clubbers have been alive. Despite being a self-confessed ‘underground monkey’ James appreciates the adage ‘house is a feeling’, and that the scene is all about bringing people together no matter what sound you’re in to."
