Remixes: Douglas Greed and Vincent Vidal
Label: Destroy All Monsters (DAMN!)
Cat No: DAMN006
Released: Out Now!
MIIIA is DAMN!’s first signing outside of its founding members and the Shanghai-based rising star of Techno is making waves across the globe. MIIIA’s sounds range from deliberately raw, unpolished “Techno-Pop” to sublime trippiness and her range of sounds are perfectly represented on this release.
The opening track is the title track and begins with a punch. The track has savage 808 drums, a bleepy signal that rides throughout, and a trippy vocal spoken by MIIIA herself. The drums and single hits are sublime and the track grooves along with the addition of a trippy, ethereal like synth that sounds incredible. Nice work MIIIA.
Next up is ‘Cloudspeak’ which is a deep, dark, industrial sounding techno number. The track has a base heavy kick that would wake the dead and the trippy effects and sci-fi sounding notes are incredible. This would sound immense in the techno clubs of Berlin and around the globe.
The third track on the release is Douglas Greed’s take on ‘Cloudspeak’ and it is clear he has moved away from that industrial sound and opted for a deeper, almost progressive sound with his remix. The bassline has a certain funk to it and the keys fill the track with a nervous like beauty. I absolutely love what Douglas Greed has done here, and this is by far my favourite of the tracks on the release. Stunning rework by a man on very fine form.
The final track on the release is Vincent Vidal’s remix of ‘Mimi’s Wonderland’ and he takes the listener back to the depths of deep driving techno. The track begins with ambient keys and it focuses on the development of the rhythmic synth line from the original track. The track is intense and has a few unexpected breakdowns to keep things intriguing throughout. A wonderous slab of moody techno!
