Decoded Magazine’s Simon Huxtable makes his debut appearance on Mirabilis with “The Wandering Mind EP”. Simon’s passion for underground music is very clear and I feel very privileged to work along side a person who has a great love for good quality music, and clearly strong skills in the studio.
First up on the EP is “Sometimes My Mind Wanders”, and if you know Simon you will clearly know that his mind wanders a lot! Sorry just had to get that in there. This is a heads down progressive number that is laden with a very hypnotic bassline, and some rather lush hypnotic pads. The track flows very nicely and would certainly be welcome in any progressive DJs set. Good work Mr Huxtable.
Next up on the EP is the track “Date With Victoria”. This track has a great old school rave sound to it that I really think many people will warm to. It has a great groove, and the stabs and percussion just penetrate your mind. This would sound incredible in one of those dark dingy back rooms which nothing but a strobe and the smell of a smoke machine. I like this a lot!
The final track on the EP is “Gently Shifting People”. This track is a lot deeper than the other two tracks and is certainly aimed at the deeper dance floors, and the warm up DJs. The track has some lovely, well placed percussion and hi hats. The bass helps to create that almost chuggy groove, and all in all is a very well rounded slab of deep house. When I say deep house I mean the good stuff! This is certainly a track I could see the likes of Howells playing in one of his Dig Deeper sets.
All in all a very well rounded EP from Simon here. The EP covers progressive, techno and deep house in a way an EP should do. I like it when a producer can show some versatility. Go and check this out when it is exclusively released on Beatport on the 22nd December, you will not be disappointed.
